  • so i think i have a herniated disk

Been suffering in the lower back area for a while and thought I may as well get an MRI done, came away with the cd of it today and from what I can tell (haven't got the report yet) the disk between my L4 and L5 seems much darker than the rest and the spinal fluid flow seems thinner and deviated away from the disk area. That indicates a herniated disk but I've no idea how long its been like that. Anyone else had this efore and what's the best way to recover?

If you really know how to read MRI's then ignore this, but if not you should really wait and not guess. You will rack your brain crazy and it may be for nothing. I've tried and know many people that tried to read them by researching online how to. We were all way off.

i agree with shib, i have done that shit before and drove myself nuts.

mr i, if it is indeed what you think, the best way to fix it is certain muscle strengthening physical therapy, proper posture.

you probably have some major muscle imbalances.

So the quack says I have 2 bulging disks, one between l4 and l5, the other between s1 and l5. The facet joints show signs of wear and tear. I've asked around and loads other people have similar, thing is when I'm on cycle I never notice anything its only off cycle I do. So my osteopath is putting together some excercises for me to include no doubt reverse hyper extensions and such. I will be incorporating stiff leg deads from now every week, plank abdominals, plenty hamstring stretches and thigh stretches. Deads, back squats other than smith, and bent rowns any lower than 45 degrees are all out. Anyone else have other options? Also does anyone know if the bulges can go. Ack in or is it just a case of minimising pain from here?

Bulging disks are often, but not always, from improper posture. See a pjysical therapist. As B said, muscle imbalances can wreak havoc. Often because of posture, our glutes are stronger in respect to our glutes. Pulls the hips into an anterior pelvic tilt. Even a slight tilt will cause problems after years.

Looking at the sites real quick, the second one looks better. First is helpful.

I have a slipped disk myself. The only thing that I have done that i was told is stretching. Other than that it's just been taking it easy with lifting heavy shit and things that bother it. I was told it can go away or it could be there forever.

It's off and on. I want to say it is L4 L5 but I don't remember.

B's right posture will mess it up. I hate that I sit behind a desk all day. Also which doesn't help is if you sleep wrong. Mine has been bothering me the past couple days because I slept funny one night.

yea, even if you dont have any herniated disk etc.. bad posture will fuck shit up. muscle knots pulling on other muscles etc..

lots of times now when i get on the computer i actually lay on my stomach on the floor and type with a pillow or 2 under my chest. sort of a reverse stretch to push everything back instead of leaning forward.

I ordered a new fucking chair at work, and will put a cusion at the base of my back. Talking of sleeping I find myself in recovery position/feotal so I'm considering a tempur matress, you thought of this?

I tried getting a new chair. No luck. I tried a couple different ones and my back still bothers me. Best thing for it is my couch no joke. I thought about getting a tempurpedic but i dont know if it will help. I have both a firm and pillow top mattress at home and it all depends on how i sleep. I was told sleep on your back with a pillow under your legs. But i toss and turn so much when I sleep I cant stay in one position.

Yes but also chairs can be uncomfortable and put more stress on your back and spine. Even if you are sitting right they can still mess you up.
