  • Abcess...

So I thought I had an umbilical hernia. (Original diagnosis) Turns out it isnt a hernia, just an abcess that has been in my belly button for about 8 months! Painful as shit and it really takes my focus away from everything I do. Not just the gym, but work and my daily activities as well. Some days it stinks so fuckin bad from the drainage I can smell it through my shirt. Going to the surgeon Monday to get it sliced and diced. I am so tempted to get hammered and have my girl chop it open but she doesnt have steady hands. (Plus I already have my health insurance deductable paid off, so I might as well pay $15 and have some anesthesia.)

How has this shit stayed in my BB for almost a year???:disagree:

I had one of those. I posted all about it last summer. I let it drain normally and was on antibiotics. Thankfully, surgery wasn't required. I was in a lot of pain though. The smell is nasty. When I went out I cleaned it, stuffed it with cotton balls, wore an undershirt, wore a regular shit and went out. One hassle was that i cleaned it every 2-3 hours for 2 weeks straight. i took 1 week off training because my doctor told me too. Went to a surgeon for consultant and he cleaned it out with silver nitrate and said its healing fine. Just let it drain and thats it.

One month later i was back to 100%

I have gone through 4 rounds of antibiotics over the past few months. It will, shrink, the infection will be gone, but it always comes back. Surgeon last time said give antibiotics one more try and come back for removal or draining if it came back again. It came back.

You need Septra Double Strength 800mg x 7 days. The bacteria that causes abcesses is very resilient to anti-biotic therapy. Septra DS has shown the best results. Hopefully your doc irrigates it out real good and packs it with Iodoform gauze and not just regular packing gauze.

I'll mention the packing thing to him. This particular doc told me last time that if it came back he was cutting and draining instead of prescribing anything more. I'll be sure to ask him about the gauze. 6 more hours! I can hardly wait to get this crap out of me. (Thats what she said)

I read it the other day. Definately sounds similar. I have been googling and have found so many answers but I didn't realize how common this was. There are thousands of people that get stuff like this. I assume its just because of the moisture and lack of oxygen in the navel.

Its moisture build up and because of that the bacteria love it. Great place to thrive and replicate. I still clean my belly button out from time to time. Hydrogen Peroxide after I shower.

So I had it drained today. Suprisingly, not much fluid came out. (For some reason it shrunk to 1/2 its normal size over last night. Figures) Anyway, he found 2 or 3 ingrown hairs inside of it while he was washing it out, which he believes is what caused it. He didnt even pack it because it was so small. Says it should heal up and go away in a few days.

Kind of annoying that 8 months of aggravation was caused by a few ingrown hairs. Oh well, hopefully soon it will be gone and back to normal.
