Its a good idea to do so.

Basically he spotted that i bite down while training and.since I'm getting an implant i need something yup cushion the bite.

For sure get a custom one.

Boil and bites are OK for short term use, but the custom one will feel much better and make breathing a bit easier.

I understand it is just to use when you are lifting.

But believe me that the $10 mouth piece is a piece of shit that isn't fun to wear for more then 10 minutes, while the $100 custom one will fit and feel excellent for hours.

I don't. I used one in jiu-jitsu, and found out quickly that the boil and bite just weren't made for me. Maybe my teeth are jacked up, but I couldn't keep a good bite it. I couldn't keep it in the correct position. The custom one made a world of difference. I went to my dentist and had the impressions made and then mailed it off to the mouth guard company.

Buy the cheap one first to see how it goes, it may work for you just fine for lifting.
