  • Got My Trigger Point Injections Yesterday

Went in for my injections in my upper back yesterday. Gave me about 5 or 6 total injections. He said I had some pretty bad knots back there. All the spots he injected are sore now with a bit of relief. He said they should relax more over the next few days and maximum effect should be the 2-3 day mark so we shall see. A few of the spots twitched pretty good where he injected.

Crazy just how tight muscles can get and the pain they can cause by pulling and squeezing on nerves.

Keep us posted. I'm curious on how this works and for how long it works.

Any thoughts about regular deep tissue massages when you are back 100%?

Honestly, it didn't do much. Not sure if he didn't go deep enough or shoot the right type of medicine or what but the area is still in spasm and still tight. Always in a specific spot to the left of thoracic area spine that then radiates pain into the scapula.

Yea deep tissue definitly helps but the thing is my area of pain is in such a concentrated area all I need is a specific spot done. I've had it done in the past and while it does help the pain is spasm is pretty much back within hours. Something is sending a signal to the muscle to tighten up for some reason. For now I just lay on my stomach and have my girl dig her elbow into the tight muscles right before bed. It gives me relief for a few hours before they tighten up again.

Not sure what your asking? Of what? What kind of drug? What are trigger point injections? I got injections of something shot into the knots in my mid/upper romboid muscles to relieve the spasms. Not sure what they shot in there but it really didn't do much of anything. Onto the next step 1 guess. I've already had full cervical and thoracic mri and CT scan with contrast. Spine is fine so that's not the cause. The only thing that is a remote potability is that there is a cist in the area of the pain that could possibly be agitating a nerve but they dont think it's likely.

It's annoying to keep going to Dr appointments only to have nothing really work but I'm determined to figure out the issue rather than just live with knots like i've done for years.

For the time being valium seems to be the only thing that even comes close to relaxing the area. That's a temporary fix though, not the end goal.

Congratulations, you can read. I'm going to a specialist who does trigger point injections for spasm everyday. On this occasion I put it in the hands of the Dr to do what's best.

If it was a medication I was to be put on for a long period of time, that would be a different story.

I figured it's either some sort of numbing agent or corticosteroid injection, either way it's temporary.

Some gnarly adhesions that will take as much work to break up as it took to make them. I imagine that's why guys like Jay Cutler and Phil Heath spend more on daily deep tissue massages than Pharma growth.

Edited. I'll just be nice. You must be on your period.

Yes, it is ok. Even if he told me what am I going to do? Look it up on Google and have some half understanding of it? With a temporary med injection like this it's perfectly reasonable to trust the professional.

Lol. You quoted me before I edited. You are quick today. I understand that it is routine and usually an anesthetic and sometimes a steroid. You just seemed like the type of patien that wants to know the names of what is being injected into your body. I asked a simple question. Just surprised you didn't ask.

Sometimes bro you just get to the point where you want the fucken pain gone and it just makes sense to put your trust in the specialist because obviously what I've been doing hasn't worked.

Probably right. And it's so difficult to really understand. The way a tight muscle can refer pain to another area and squeeze on an area that isn't actually the point of origin. Sometimes for no reason the pain and tightness is relieved and other times for no reason the tightness and pain is almost unbearable.

Bouncer, in general in the gym do you typically work out the front of your body (chest, abs, shoulders, biceps, quads) more than the rear (back, rear delts, hams, glutes calves)?

If so you might consider, of course along with doing all the stretching, foundation training, and stick ups to work more on your posterior chain so that your front facing muscles aren't out of balance.

no definitely not. i work everything evenly. this has to be some sort of prior minor injury that has healed but built up scar tissue and is hitting a nerve or something. it's just a matter of finding the specific area. Next appointment in 2 weeks. I will not atop until this is fixed no matter what I have to do. Will keep the thread updated.
