I buy my brown rice from the bulk foods section of my grocery store. Buy long grain if you want it less sticky and short grain for more sticky.

It obviously takes a little longer to cook since it is not "precooked" like instant rice, but I think it is better for you. Plus, it only costs about 40c/pound.

I have tried both open cooking and pressure cooking - both come out pretty well.

Well it depends on your what you want to achieve. If you want to build mass I suggest you go for white rice as it contains less fibre and is digested quicker. Brown rice is good for cutting up diets as its made of complex carbs with increased amout of fibre creating slower digesting.

Danny, do you have a reference for this? Do carbs that get digested quicker help you gain muscle mass faster? I would be worried that carb foods with high glycemic indices would result in greater fat mass addition, not muscle. So, what you are saying seems to be contrary to what I have understood.

Maybe this is because I don't understand everything on this topic, but I would like to read more about this if you have a reference.
