  • How often do you cheat?

I try to stay on my diet....but about once a week.....I need a fucking pizza. There I said it.

I cheat every so often, but I am trying to bulk. A fast metabolism helps.

On a strict diet, I have one cheat meal (early in the day) every two weeks. I try not to eat crap like pizza, cheese fries, or fried foods --- just large quantities of semi-healthy foods.

In order to burn more calories on a weekly basis, we need to "cheat" at least once a week. Pizza is a perfect food to do this with. Let's say you normally eat 2,000 calories and you usually burn 1,000. On the "cheat day" you eat 2,200 and burn 1,100. From now on, until your next "cheat" day, your body is "tricked" into burning 1,100 calories. Now, when you go back to eating 2,000 calories/day, you will still be burning more than before. This is all due to a spike in your metabolism that tells the body to burn more since you are eating more. (Hope this makes sense).

Depending on your toppings, pizza can be one of the most ideal foods/meals. Pizza has ample complex carbs, protein and fat from the cheese, and the tomato sauce is high in phytochemicals, which help decrease the production of free radicals. I have studied different foods for years, and Pizza with healthy toppings, comes out as one of the best foods to eat. Again it all depends on the toppings!

Last time I checked cheese wasn't a source of good fat. Maybe things have changed.

No, cheese is not deemed a "good" fat nor did I refer to cheese as being a "good" fat, but its a fat none the less, so it provides for insulin and glucagon stabilization along with the protein. It is however a good source of protein and since Mozzeralla is the cheese of choice for pizzas, it is a "better" type of cheese than others.

              This part is accurate.

Pizza is loaded with saturated fats, which you should always try to avoid (cheat meal or otherwise).

O.K., maybe I'm in the wrong thread. There are numerous foods with a high fat content, but what you are looking for on a cheat day are foods that will cause you to intake more calories and will therefore spike your metabolic rate. There may be better "cheat" foods out there, but from what was first posted, pizza fits this "picture" too.

Pizza has fat in it, yes I will agree with that, but coming from someone who works with food everyday, pizza is made (usually) with a low fat mozzarella, which is lower in fat than other cheeses (1 oz. = 80 calories, 8 g Protein and 5 g Fat vs. American with 106 calories, 6 g Protein, and 9 g Fat). Also, Low Fat Mozzarella cheese is noted as being a "Fair" protein source in most nutrition sources. Same goes for Cottage cheese.

What I am trying to get at is that the protein and fat from the cheese help stabilize our insulin and glucagon levels, which in turn, keeps our fat burning sytem going. As with most foods, eat in moderation.

This is a recipe for a once a week treat:

                  Chicken Pizza

8 oz. chicken breasts - cut in strips
                  1 medium onion, thinly sliced
                  1/3 cup tomato sauce
3 medium plump tomatoes, thinly sliced
                  14" pizza crust
1 cup shredded no-fat/low moisture mozzarella cheese

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Cook chicken strips on the stove with a Pam base. Add onion and tomato sauce and stir about 3 minutes until chicken is thoroughly cooked.

Arrange tomato slices and chicken mixture on pizza crust . Sprinkle the cheese over the toppings. Bake 8 minutes or until pizza is hot and cheese is melted.

Makes 6 servings. Each serving has 427 calories, 14 grams of Fat, 23 grams of Protein, 49 grams of Carbohydrates.

This is an iso-calorie recipe that is healthy and tasty and helps stabilize our insulin and glucagon levels.
