No this really is my friend not some sad excuse i had to make up for asking about me. Friend finally took my advice and got serious about wanting to join the gym after seeing some of my results lately. but he is skinny. Everything he eats he burns just about. Hes very boney but like you know not concentration camp look just uhhh skinny. He wants to add some muscle you know and he wants to do it in a healthy and reasonable way. What should i tell him??? What are good foods to help him bulk up. But should he only eat this type of food on his lifting days ??? Hes afraid eatting to bulk will make him fat. Ive never really bulked up because i had alot of weight on me i converted to muscle and still working on it. But he has nothing to build into anything. some advice for him aswell as me =) Thx

Newsflash: you cannot convert fat to muscle, you build the muscle first and then diet and train to get rid of the fat later. If your friend is skinny (ectomorph) and he wants to build muscle then he is gona have to train heavy and eat, eat , eat. its no good training to bulk if you not gona eat, this is a sample of what i ate today (12% bf right now)
Breakfast- 1 large bowl of oats with honey
2 Slices of wholemeal toast with jam
1 bannana
2 glasses of oj
At around 10.30am I had a whey based protein shake with bannana and 2 cups of ice cream
Lunch- 1 huge bowl of tuna and rice
about 2 hours later i had another huge bowl of tuna and rice, i dont usually do this but there was some left over,
Before training around 4.00pm i have another shake, i wait about 40min then head to the gym
Its about 7.30 now and im on my 3rd bowl of tuna and rice lol, I will have some chicken breast later for tea (stuffed with sour cream, chives and spinach) and some vegies on the side, then for desert i will prob have a bowl of jelly and ice cream
This is just what i ate today, it always changes, Although i admit i prob dont consume enough different food sources, but thats just an example of the volume of food i eat. If you friend wants to bulk then he's gotta eat, and then when he cant eat anymore, eat some more. I also love roast potatoes, i cut em into peices, roast em, then take em to work the next day, have a look at some other ppls diets and get some more ideas

damn i wish i could eat that much id prolly throw up... As for him i dont think he can literally stuff that all into his stomache... Well he likes peanut butter and loves eating tuna straight from the can so... and we did just get shakes. I tell him to eat more portions of home cooked meals ( he doesnt eat fatty shit like mcdonalds) home cooked meals is prolly meatloaf with potatoes. I figure ill get him to put some pb and ice cream / bannanas in those shakes he has now and get him signed up to the gym the very same day. I can help with a work out plan i just dont want him to join the gym and not see results because hes not eatting right.

if he is THAT skinny, after he hits the gym hard, go to Burger king and get some b ig macs. have your protein shakes, but just jam those hamburgers and slices down your throat. either that or buy weight gainer which tastes like ass and isnt as many calories as junk food u could get at a fast food place. hes gotta eat every 2 hours, hungry or not. drink at least a gallon a day also. if he gets his calories high enough, hes gunna gain

How many calories does that come to...roughly? But I agree completely, if you're an ectomorph (like myself), and training hard, you're not going to get anywhere if your body doesn't have the calories and protein it needs to get bigger. An ectomorph burns off a lot of calories doing nothing, so that means he/she needs that much more than the average person to get bigger. For 3 months I took in around 5000 calories/day and gained 32 lbs. For a month I cut down to around 3750/day and actually lost 5 lbs during that time.Originally posted by majoradams

If you're friend is anything like me, he will need around 4000-5000 calories a day (moderately healthy calories) with the right amount of protein to gain some weight. With a metabolism like his, he might as well not even start lifting if he doesn't plan on eating a shitload of food each day as well.
