Beet Sugar vs. Dextrose?

I ran out of Dextrose yesterday and tried to look for it locally for several hours today. A guy at whole foods told me beet sugar would work about the same. What doy you guys think?

I dont think so. I believe that beet sugar is the same as high fructose corn syrup, which is very different.
