  • Lean ground or lean sirloin?

Okay, so say I have the same portion size of each: lean ground beef and lean cut of say...sirloin steak. So, which one has more fat in it? I know that steaks sometimes have visible fat on them that you cut off--but which one is better for you?

it depends on which cuts you're getting, and how lean is your ground?

the label will usually tell you what % lean it is.

eye of round is the leanest. sirloin has more fat.

if you're afraid of fat, go buy an eye of round (usuall a roast) and ask the butcher to grind it up into ground for you.

      Sana,

Do you tend to weigh everything you eat? Im just curious, because maybe Im outta wack on portion sizes?!? How many ounces of chicken in relation to carbs (yams, oatmeal, brown rice) should I be eating together?

i am during contest prep. otherwise, i don't. there's no "should" in terms of portion size together if you're just trying to hit an overall ratio through the day.

Im just trying to stay lean or get leaner. My bet is I should stay away from ground beef and steak all together.

not necessairly. you need a certain amount of fat in your diet. a few meals with lean beef doesn't hurt.

            what IS your current diet?

Works for me. If you grill a pattie, (8oz. or so), well done, you'll wind up with about 6 or 7 oz., with not much fat left. It's a bit dry, well done, but not bad. A ground up eye of round is probably less than 4% fat anyway. As Sana said, some fat is necessary to harden you up too. BB
