The trick to eating healthy on a budget is to avoid processed and boxed foods as much as possible and buy from the bulk foods section. Do you have a grocery store where you live where you have to bag your own groceries and they have a large bulk foods section?
In the PNW where I live, there is a chain called Winco Foods where I pretty much do most of my shopping.
I'll post a list of things I eat and you can get some ideas. I spend less than $100 per week for a family of 5, which comes to less than $3 per day per person, pretty much within the reach of most people, I should think. I am vegetarian, so you may end up spending a bit more, but I doubt you would need to spend more than $5 per day to eat the healthiest food imaginable.
