It depends if you're cutting or bulking right now, as far as the specific product goes. Either way, right before bed, it is best to take something that is primarily milk or casein based protein. I take VPX Micellean Bioactive Superfood. It has about 45g protein (mostly casein), 22g complex carbs and some flax seed. It's not really cheap, but I think it does a good job and it tastes alright. I also like the specs on the MHP Up Your Mass and the ProLab Lean Mass Matrix is alright too (not quite as good in terms of quality protein and carbs).

I really havn't seen any difference between the cheap stuff and the expensive. I'd rather eat more solid food throughout the day, that seems to work better.

Eat a can of tuna and you`ll be all set and it`s a hell of a lot cheaper.

33 grams of protein and the naturally occuring fats in the tuna will digest slow which is what you want when sleeping.

My last meal is a big omellette so I don't worry about it too much. If I eat that at almos 700 at night and my next protein drink is at 500 in the morning when I get up, its not to big of a deal for me. Especially being on gear which is nitrogen retentive.

never checked that kind out before. sure it works good but like someone else said its probably overpriced like a bitch.

you dont need 6 different kinds of protein. calcium casseinate is all you need. order it off of trueprotein.com.

their calcium casseinate is only 5 dollars a pound. i get 3lbs and take 50 grams a night before i go to bed. usually last me right about 30 days. and its only, what 20 bucks, if that after a 5 dollar shipping cost.

I have to disagree with that. I think you definetly need a fast absorbing whey protein for pre and post workout and possibly even first thing in the morning to stop any catabolic processes. Casein protein is definitely good for nighttime, but I also think cottage cheese makes a good alternate and cheaper source of protein for slow absorption night time protein.

bbaddict, were talking about before bed here.

cottage cheese is an excellent source of calcium casseinate, but eating 50 grams of protein in cottage cheese a night would be crazy ass expensive probably average out to like 10 dollars a week in cottage cheese...atleast if not more. the protein powder is a much cheaper way to go!
