  • Question about Alcohol

i'm a sophomore in college and like most i usually drink like twice a week. and i was wondering if that could slow or stop me from making gains

Simply put, yes. There are a lot of effects that this could have on inhibiting muscle growth and also putting on fat.

Sorry, bro but this is the sad truth! Decent read on some of the affects of alcohol on muscles and body chemistry. No good comes of it from a bodybuilding standpoint, but you also have to balance having a life with bodybuilding. Just have to decide what you're priorities are. I probably drank like 3x last year, but like my user name says I am an addict and probably have dedicated too much of my time and energy to it. Anyway, there's the info and you can decide what to do with it.

I drank all the time for a few years. Every Friday, and Saturday....my girl and I would go get a big bottle of Jaigher *spelling*, and some Redbull, and drink till we were stupid. I was still lifting then, but I had put on quite a few pounds of fat, because I would always have to eat to sober up, and I didn't care what it was. How many drunk people you see reach for a protein bar at 3 in the morning? :) Hell no.....they hit up Waffle House or some other fat factory. I am happy to say I haven't drank since February of last year......except for a glass of champagne on New Years. I have leaned out, and been growing like crazy. Could be the juice though.....not sure :agree:

I drink practically every day. Beer and Jack Daniels. I've maintained a constant weight, while working out 5 days per week. BUT I've been juicing for almost a year straight too. I know that'll get some comments but I cant stop either one, especially the gear.

Excellent point--he's probably just compensating for all the negative effects of alcohol with the gear.
