  • how to tolerate tuna

I have NEVER been a fan of tuna and have only eaten it during my pre-competition diet and have always just choked it down. Well I'm dieting again and made up a new trick for masking the taste - take your can of tuna (rinsed in cold water), throw that in a bowl, then mix in your steamed brown rice.

It's quick and easy to take to work and I can actually tolerate the tuna. It's definitely a nice change from chicken (hard to find large packs of turkey breast here).

Another good way to do it.

Take solid Whit abacore in water. Drain it add a cap of vinigar (helps remove the fish taste).
add a touch of fat free ranch dressing.
    Quick and easy.

I will some times make a big bowl of this (4 large cans) and add in a dozen hard boiled eggs (9 whites 3 whole). Good for small bewteen meal snacks.

You can add the vinigar to the brown rice/tuna mix too. Some shreaded lettuce in there is nice also.

I can't stand canned tuna anymore so I've switched to skinless/boneless sardines, less worries about mercury too.

Rice Vinegar! Not as tart, but ads a little zip.

I just switched to the skinless, boneless salmaon. It comes in the 6 oz. can tike tuna, but the protein is a bit lower.

Puddles, my research Mistress.............any murcury probs in the salmon?

From what I remember, salmon is a lower risk for mercury. I usually buy it frozen at Costco in little plastic sealed blocks in a big bag, the canned is good for convenience but the fresh tastes a lot better. I'll cook a few at a time and as usual, store em in zippie baggies. I love it cold right outta the fridge.

Stromba forbids me to eat canned salmon in his office...he says it smells like fish. LOL

If I may- your memory serves you well. salmon is lower in mercury than tuna. there are news reports that farm raised salmon is not as clean as ocean caught due to the feed they use. as you all probably already know, salmon is a gr8 source of omega fats (better than tuna ?) predatory fish at the top of the food chain (like tuna and swordfish) accumulate more mercury in their tissues from consuming lots of smaller fishes, it builds up over time.

I spend a little more time making my tuna because if I dont do it right I don't eat it. chopped onion, black pepper, crushed egg whites and mustard. the mustard is great for killing the taste.

i really dont like tuna but i eat it anyways.
A good way i take it is my putting shitloads of it in my mouth and get water and chug it all down. I usually add some hot sauce to it for a little bit of flavor. Havent had it in a while.

i tried your idea of tuna in rice, and i also chopped up a tomatoe and threw it in there.....GREAT!

i cooked them all together instead of cooking the rice first, then adding the tuna (i'm not sure how u did it), but it worked good.....I'm not cook so unfortuneatly i burned half of my rice basically everything touching the pan was burned, i guess i cooked it too high but i had a large plateful of perfectly unburned rice/tuna/tomatoes :)

I'm on the road for work again and bought those tuna packets cause I don't have a canopener this time! Some of those pre-flavored tuna packets taste pretty decent on their own.
