  • TUNA TROUBLES

I have been eating Star Kist's Albacore CHUNK Tuna in water, 6 oz. cans for many, many years. Occasionally, I would get a can that didn't have the round firm chunks, rather more like slivers of tuna, kind of minced. I would accept that it maybe was the beginning or end of a packing run and the can I had just had some small pieces due to the processing methods. Recently, in more than one batch, (determined on the back of the can), it seems like all I get is "ground" tuna not "chunks". So far, the last 14 cans I have opened have been the "ground" variety. I was so pissed that I sent an e-mail to Star Kist and voiced my complaints. They sent me a complaint number and asked me to call, and stated that they were sending me some cupons, BFD! I called and talked to a very nice young lady and gave her the lot#'s in question. She sympathized with me and said she understood why I was angry. She herself eats much tuna, and says she didn't like it either when she got cans like that. She said that I should get the tuna in the foil packs and they wouldn't be slivery, since they were processed differently. I have tried them, but they are much, much, higher than in the cans. It's not the money, just the fact that I'm not getting what's advertised in the cans. I eat at least 7 cans a week. Anyway, has anyone else noticed this with your tuna? BB

Now you have me worried-I have never bought albacore until yesterday, but actually the Chicken of the Sea cheap tuna is pretty chunky. I guess I'm eating Chicken of the Sea not Starkist, but I'm gonna have to check my albacore tonight.

Maybe it's time to change brands, unless they give me a year's supply or something, lol. Star Kist, Starkist, has always been rated as #1, but now I wonder if they're living on their laurels. .BB

it might be the water. although i have never tried the albacore i eat the regular 10 cans for $6 kind. what i do is after i open it i press down on the top to drain all the water. and i have tried the pouches and they are better in texture.

I'm sorry, but I find it funny to get that worked up over some cans of tuna to call a complaint line.

Yeah, on the outside it does seem trivial, however, If I pay for something I expect to get what I paid for. Just the same if I buy something and get it home and there are parts missing or something's broken, I take it back, just as you would. If I'm eating out and the food is prepared improperly or they don't bring what I ordered, I send it back, just as you would. The tuna is no different, the contents were not as advertised, consistently, so I complained about it. Too many companies and other businesses just put out what they have, bad or not, and if the consumer doesn't say anything, they will continue to get away with whatever they can. I just feel that it is important to let these people know that they can't get by with what I consider to be unacceptable, with everybody. BB

i started getting startkist tuna in a 3 pack, 3 small cans. each can is 21gs protein 100 cal. the cans have a lid you can open it so you dont need a can opener and its much easier to strain. just eat 2 cans at a time, 42g protein and takes 1 minute to prepare =)

No I understand. I just can imagine some of the really big guys getting mad at a can a Tuna and start beating up on it and throwing the can around. Kind of makes me think of Chris Farley on Tommy Boy, where he was trying to describe how bad he is at selling breaks while holding a doughnut. Then when he get;s frustrated he tears the doughnut apart.
