What are your thoughts on Buckwheat pancakes while dieting? I've been craving pancakes for about a year now!

When you say you're craving pancakes and you are showing us pics of loafs of bread, you sure you don't mean french toast?

If you want to make pancakes while dieting, you're best bet is to get whole wheat flour and use half flour and half whey. There is a guy on another board that maintains a 6 pack year round and eats these frequently. Just use a sugar free syrup.

Well I'm looking for a new bread to eat and I thought I would throw in the pancakes question in the same thread instead of starting another one.

I've seen whole wheat pancakes before, but I've always read about buckwheat pancakes; that's why asked about them, but whatever is healthier is what I will eat. Never heard of half and half whey though; can you get that at anywhere?

Best thing to look for is the best fiber to carb ratio. That will usually tell you which one has the best quality of carbs.

That first one up there has the most protein, highest fiber and least amount of carbs per gram. That's the one you want.

I use a similar technique to judge the quality of any grain product. I look at the ratio of fiber:sugar. I actually don't typically eat bread with any sugar in it. You could probably find bread with 0grams sugar, which would be better.

Buckwheat pancakes are a bit dry, but they're not too bad. I've had them many times and they are healthy and are OK if you eat them with sugar-free syrup. I've also made pancakes with cottage cheese in them--high protein, lower carb pancakes!

It goes hand in hand. If you have a higher fiber content, the product will have less sugar in it.

If you want pancakes just have pancakes. Set yourself a cheat meal and have them. Once a week cheat meal will do you some good.

As for the bread. I always go with 100% whole wheat. Not a fan of the grain bread.
