  • Anybody else drink their egg whites?

I like to pour 3/4 cups of egg whites (pasteurized) in with some crystal light and slam it down. Anybody else do anything like this? Or am I a nasty ass mofo?

Well I rember YJ posted a while back that eggs needed to be cooked to bond the amino acid chains together to make a complete protien. I can't seem to find the thread right now.

Here we go I found it...

"Eggs are essentially useless raw. The amino acids in eggs need to be heated to fully bond. Albumen in the urine is a general sign, as studies show that a significantly higher amount of malabsorbed protein (egg) was found in the urine of healthy individuals (1). Stable isotope techniques are used to determine the digestibility of raw eggs vs. cooked eggs. In another study, using this method, it was demonstrated that the assimilation of cooked egg protein is efficient, albeit incomplete, and that the true ileal digestibility of egg protein is significantly enhanced by heat-pretreatment (2). Heat-pretreatment of course being cooked.
Not to mention you have a 1 in 30,000 chance to get salmonella from a raw egg. Also, if you blend raw eggs or whatever, you can break up the chemical bonds of amino acids where as cooking them can hook the bonds together, which inevitably is the objective.

I occassionally drink egg whites or egg beaters but only when I'm traveling and have no way of cooking it because I also understood that the protein is absorbed better when you cook it. Never tried it with Crystal Light though.

Egg beaters are ok to drink 'raw' due to their method or processing, raw egg whites on the other hand are going out just as they came in....

I dont think i'll ever drink egg whites cracked from the egg, that's hardcore, and risky. I dont use "Egg Beaters" Brand either, I use a brand called "Papetti Foods", found at Publix. Same shit though right?
