I was wondering if drinking will really screw up my goals in getting bigger? I am a first year college student so as you have imagined alot of drinking has takin place. I have cut ym drinking down to jsut saturday night, but i am really tempted to go out and have a few during the week with my friends. Is this horrible for my plans to get bigger at the gym? I am on a great diet now and have been getting great gains im jsut wondering if drinking will throw it all away? thanks,

    Yes it's bad.

And if you have those habbits I would challenge your thoughts on a "great diet"

keep it to one night a week; try to not get blasted. make sure you drink LOTS of water throughout the night, even if that makes you piss every 30 minutes. eat a big meal the next morning.

but it doesn't really matter if you follow any of that. because im sure your diet (and training) are shit.

Glowalla thinks he is a top dog around here, but even he can't live a life without drinking and stick to a real diet. But you have only been doing this for 3 weeks. That's not really a commitment yet, it's more of a start. Which is good. Now you need to challange yourself to stick with everything through the holidays. It is very common for younger people to think they have a good diet, but really don't. It could simply be that the foods they eat are good foods, but eaten at the wrong times and in the wrong combinations. It could be that you don't relize that certain foods you eat really aren't the best choices. Go ahead and post your diet up to make sure everything is set up right, so you get the most out of everything. Be sure and say which meals are pre and post workout.

            ie.

            Meal 1 - Time - Description

            Meal 2 - Time - Description.

            etc.

take it from me bro, there was a time i was drinking shitloads and still working out. My workouts sucked, i wasnt gaining weight, and my sex drive was low. I was going through shitty times. If I drink, it will be once a month now, not like before 3-4 times a week.

The worst part is, when u drink u sleep more, therefore skipping meals. Even worst the beer belly.

I think I'm a top dog around here? What is that supposed to mean and what kind of inane logic did you use to derive that from my statements above?

If you are calling me cocky for telling him his diet/training are probably shit than that would be hypocritical, as you said the same thing yourself. If you think that my own nutrition is shit because I drink once a week (and for the time being I'm not drinking because I am cutting), then that is bullshit. From all the posts I've seen you make that illuminate your ideas on nutrition, it would be smarter to challenge your nutrition rather than my own.

If I can be cocky once more, dear sir, I would like to say that I took the more intelligent approach to counseling this guy. Maybe you have forgotten what freshman year is like, but I am still in college and can remember vividly the allure of the drink during that time. This guy is very unlikely to quit drinking to further his bodybuilding goals. Since this is most definitely the case, I approached the situation with realism, offering the guy advice that he could follow while still enjoying college to a degree. He is more likely to follow this than an outright rejection of alcohol.

And don't take this as me being disrespectful to a mod, I'm just sharing what I think is a much more logical argument.

And why do I think your training/diet are probably shit, Snow? Because it takes years to learn this stuff and you are a beginner. Simple as that. Will I help you fix that? Yes. As Master Shibby said, post up your current diet and we will try to rework it.

Alcohol decreases testosterone, a critical anabolic chemical. It increases estrogen, which makes you soft and emotional! It also interferes with sleep, eating correctly, proper hydration, and overall wellness and drive.
There are no pros and many cons--I like what I heard once--"Alcohol has no place in a bodybuilders life except preparing an intramuscular injection site." OK, I may have butchered that, but you get the idea. There's no place in a bodybuilders diet for alcohol (or recreational drugs).

Ok I didn't see that part about being able to stick to a real diet. Do not challenge my diet when you have no idea what it consists of. I have never posted anything about what I myself eat, but I have given out nutritional information on this site many times. That should give you an idea of my level of knowledge in that field.

I discretely mentioned this earlier, but I will make it more clear now after you have insulted my nutrition: My diet is better than yours. I know more about nutrition than you do.

Excuse me while I put rice on my tongue and wash it down with water for my PWO meal.

Yes, as I have said, my diet is better than yours.

I won't get into what I do and don't know about you. But you can read all the books in the world and it will still be just knowledge. I wasn't questioning your knowledge, more you practices. There's no major age difference in you and this kid. How can you possibly know anything about HIS diet and training if he hasn't posted it?

                        Ok then.

Alcohol doesn't impact me very dramatically (as in i can't notice it compared to when i dont drink) in the gym. If it did have a significant effect, I would change my practices and not drink. However, I feel as though I do not need to do that so I have not changed my practices.

And again, you were the first one to challenge his "great diet."

Lets place bets. We'll see if his diet is good or not when he posts it up. I'm just working off of probabilities here. Of course i know little about the guy, but from what one can gather on him, there is a high probability that he does not have a good diet.

But more importantly, why are you still questioning my accusation when you yourself made the same one???

It's the way you said it. As mods we can get overwhelmed at times seeing the same stuff over and over again. But who are you to attack him like that?

Ya, i definitely don't have the reputation or standing or invested time that any of you guys have. But still, I've been reading this forum every day for over a year and other forums for several years. I get just as tired of those types of posts as you do, despite my lack of standing...though i will tone down my quick criticisms like that.

That's fine. I don't want to get into this any longer. I am not denying that you have the knowledge. But until you practice what you preach, you have no right to come at any member like that.
