  • loading up on vits while sick?

    Hey guys im friggin sick! Sore throat, painfull/flemy cough. My question is will cramming a sh*t load of vitamins do any good once youre already sick? Or are vitamins (air born, vit C) really only usefull in preventing sickness and not really speeding it up?
    Cuz i sware ive heard somewhere that once youre sick then youre sick and you just gotta ride it out, but at this point i dont care, im ready to go to the store and load up on vitamins.....ive already downed close to a gallon of water today and its only about noon here. I really dont want to wake up tomorrow morning feeling like i did this morning.

    Oh i also supp with spirulina which is a green powder that is supposed to be the equivilant of like 3-4 servings of veges per serving, as far as anti-oxidants and beta-carotene.

    Sleep A TON, drink LOTS OF WATER, and FORCE FEED yourself. That will make u better fast.

        Yeah I can deal with a regular cold, and i will work out through it too but i cant work out through this sore throat crap b/c any type of exertion makes me cough and cringe from the pain. And what sucks is i have to work. I can not call in sick b/c my supervisor is off this week and im covering for him. Im gonna hit the rack at like 7-8 though and hopefully wont feel like dying in the morning. Thanks bro.

          I do believe in taking echinacea (w/ goldenseal, perhaps)and zinc when I am sick or feel it coming on. I think these do help me recover faster. Other than that, rest, rest and more rest.

            I know people who swear by that AirBorn stuff. They say if you take about five (spaced out over the course of a day) at the first symptom of a cold, it completely wipes it out. But I don't know how much good it'll do if you're already sick..

              Well i took airborne yesterday anyways. I took it at 1, 4, and 7pm and then went to bed at about 7:30 so i got like almost 10 hours of sleep. But im afraid its only gotten worse....my throat doesnt hurt as bad but now ive got flu symptoms including naseau. I woke up and was all happy and sh*t b/c my throat didnt hurt as bad and i was thinking 'wow, that airborne stuff plus 10 hours of sleep did the trick!'.....Then i attempted to roll out of bed and got super dizzy as i stood up. Had to run my ass to the bathroom sink and hack up 10 hours worth of loogies!

              Im at work now and my head, and back hurt every time i cough.....im light headed, feeling somewhat naseaus.....my friggin eye lids hurt. Tryin to suck down this lemon and honey tea w/o puking.

              lol, sorry to gross you guys out but hey at least youre not me right now.

                        Something to consider on Rado's advice as well on loading up on Vit. C..... Vit. C is water soluble, green tea is a natural diuretic...hmm....

                          well today was 10 times better!!! I friggin had to go home early yesterday and i crashed out, got up, ate, took nyquil (sp) crashed out again, and woke up this morning feeling f*cking great!!! Well not 'great' but compared to the previouse 2 mornings i was 10 times better!!! I still got a lingering cough, not too bad, and my abs, obliques, and back hurt from coughing so much over the last couple days, but other then that im kewl!! Ill probably be workin out tomorrow.

                          I think what made the biggest difference was the spirulina, but who knows maybe it woulda been gone today no matter what i took.

                            biggest thing when you are sick is to just get your rest and drink plenty of fluids. i was sick about a week ago with a sore throat and 103 fever. i just slept most of the day and drank a lot of tea and water. two days later i was 100 times better and back to normal another day after that. just get some rest and take it easy for a few.

                              lol, looking back on this thread i am sooo happy im not sick anymore......wanna hear something F*cked up though? The next day on new years eve i got food poisoning from some fried calamari!!! What luck man...just starting to feel better then i get floored by bad sea food.
