Was wondering if anybody had any information or links about digestion times of the different types of protiens(whey/meat/casien...bad spelling). I have been training for the past 7 years(not competitivley) and have been following the theroy (from a friend), that the body can only digest 50g of protien every 2 hours. Any more then that is waisted. So thats roughley what I have been trying to consume latley. But I figure that if I ate 1 lb of beef(144g of protien) Its gonna take a while for that to break down and make the protien available...right? so I am not necessarily waisting a whole lot of the protien. or am I? I am not saying I eat 1 lb of beef on a regular basis, I am just using this example to try and get my head wrapped around my digestion and protien usage/waistage. Any info or links would be appreciated. Thanks

whey digests fastest, especially hydrolyzed whey, since it's actually "predigested"...casein is slower, I believe up to 6-8 hours to be fully absorbed and digested. I imagine meat falls somewhere in between...but remember, if you consume fats (or anything else, really) with your protein, it will slow down the digestion rate. If you eat your pound of beef alone, it'll be digested faster than if you ate that pound with a whole bunch of rice, beans and other stuff
hope it helped...maybe foghat will come in and enlighten you

Hahahahahahaha - thanks for the comment there bro, but I pale in comparison to someone like YellowJacket etc. Stick around and you'll see that most ALL of us are still rookies in some way or another when compared to the vets/experts.Originally posted by go Yankeesmaybe foghat will come in and enlighten you

What happens is that even though you can digest that much protein, your body won't be able to shuttle all those amino acids into your bloodstream at once. Thus you'd be better off dividing that pound of beef into 4 servings throughout the day. The idea is to keep a steady flow of amino acids entering your bloodstream throughout the day.

Makes sense. What happins to the excess amino acids that dont make it to the blood streem. Do they store as fat or do you piss them out...a little of both maybe?

I know that. I was just wondering what happined to them if I took in too many at once. Control said that all the amino's wouldnt get to my bloodstreem at once, so where do they go?..what do they do? I hope I am not waisting anybodys time...I am just curious thats all.Originally posted by slipshadyaminos are the building blocks of muscle you do not store them as fat...
