  • Keto/Atkins diet and gaining/retaining muscle MASS ?

    Howdy, first time poster here... so be gentle.

    Iv'e been on a mass cycle in my training for a few months, but I've finally gotten disgusted by my gut. I hate it. I've always been a fairly muscular guy (Natural) and have never done roids... don't have a dern thing against those who do, their choice.
    Anyway, I'm starting to ramble: to the point:

    I want to start a Keto diet (Atkins), will I still be able to add mass? Will is slow? Will it stop? WILL I LOSE???

    Please help.
    Thanks

    Your Bro
    John

    Keto is catabolic in nature. You would probaly have to be on androgens to generate mass.

          Got that, guy. Want to know why pro states the CKD is catabolic in nature, an untruth.

              What's the difference exactly? To me, when a person refers to keto, I envision it to a CKD. I'm not questioning your intlligence, prolang, just curious what you meant by that. By nature, all diets are catabolic in nature. Increased fat intake means a decrease in gluconeogensis, thus making it less catabolic than most. If a straight Adkins is being discussed, then I see your point. But, most knowledgeable folks here know that weight training and Adkins don't make good bed fellows.

                keto=no carb ups
                ckd=carb ups

                the terms are not interchangeable

                  Pro, I am a mod at the CKD.com forums. As far as I know, the diet is referred to as both. Adkins is the diet without the carb-up.

                    well, keto in general is refered to no carb ups, and its atkins, no adkins. But in the end it doesnt matter, we werent on the same page. But, IMO, it is harder to gain mass on a CKD than it is in a diet that allows carbs everyday.

                      Lyle McDonald, author of "The Ketogenic Diet" and "Ultimate Diet 2.0" is against CKD or Keto, whatever you want to call it, for mass gain. Just a thought from someone who knows much more about diet than I do.

                        Agreed for both, prolang. I would never advocate A CKD/keto, etc. for bulking.

                          im gonna agree with prolangtum here. carbs are out bodies primary energy source. they also keep the muscles full. without carbs, even for a day, i feel like crap.

                            i didnt loose mass as bad on keto as i did doing a restricted calorie diet. i also lost fat alot faster on keto. just a personal observation here.

                              For cutting, a keto or CKD, whatever you want to call it, is a much better diet IMO for retaining muscle, than low overall calorie diet.
