I've mixed them with brown rice before for the carbs/protein but I've put downed enough rice in the past year to want to f'ing stab Uncle Ben. How do black beans alone fare as a carbohydrate source? I need something different in my diet to keep it interesting.

they are an awesome source of high fiber carbs that are packed with antioxidants. The protein is second class as is most plant based protein sources. They may not replace glycogen post workout as well as brown rice, but they are definitely a healthy addition to your diet.

Black beans are metabolized differently than brown rice. Their GI is higher, so they will be digested faster than brown rice. They aren't bad for you by any means, but you may want to eat less ratios than what you would w/ brown rice.Originally posted by R.P.
