  • favorite complex carbs?

I've been living on rolled oats, steel-cut oats (irish oats), quinoa and brown rice.
This weekend I'd like to pickup Jasmine rice, and bulgur.

So, what kind of carbs do you eat and depend on for your energy needs?

Why jasmine rice? Stick with brown rice. It is very good for you on multiple fronts - the bran layer significantly increases fiber which is obviously very good for your digestive system. Moreover, it is absorbed more slowly and the insulin response is much lower for brown rice. The bran has also a lot of the natural nutrients and vitamins that get removed when brown rice is polished to get white rice, which is why white rice has to be fortified with vitamins as mandated by the FDA.

Hulless barley also has a very low glycemic index.

some people have a hard time with regular brown rice. house1 and myself included. hard to digest for some people. i don't have a problem with Jasmine Brown rice though. the longer grain is easier to digest for some reason.

My mistake - I actually meant Basmati Rice instead of Jasmine rice.

                    Thanks for the heads up.

Actually Quinoa is awesome! I checked the nutritional info. Seems like it has almost the same nutrients as brown rice but more protein (22g/cup)

Also, you guys should try Steel-cut oats (Irish oats, etc), if you haven't already. Takes about 10 mins in my pressure cooker.
