  • My Diet

For Bouncer. Do you really think a low carb diet is a Fad diet? This is what I call my lifestyle diet. I stay lean with a visible 6-pack and also slowly build muscle along the way. I'm carb sensitive, carbs really affect the way I feel. I keep them low, year round.

    Resistance Training Days:
6:30am - Wake up, Low Carb Protein Shake (50g protein, 6g carbs, 10 Fat)
    8:00am - Oatmeal (1 cup) 5 egg whites, 2 yolks (3000 fish oil)
11:00am - 5oz Ground beef (90% lean), 1/2 cup brown rice salad (w/broccli & celery 1tbsp olive oil for dressing) 5oz almonds (3000 fish oil)
3:00pm - 5oz Ground beef (90% lean), 1/2 cup brown rice (brocc, celery, carrots)
5:30pm - work out. Surge protein/carb mix during workout, slam another surving of surge post workout. Then a 50g whey protein shake when I get home.
8:00pm - can of tuna & 1/2 cup of oatmeal
9:00pm - 5oz Chicken breast, 1/2 cup brown rice, salad with olive oil for dressing
    11:00pm - 2 tablespoons natural peanut butter & celery, 3000 fish oil

I do ground beef because it is easy for me to prepare in advance and warms up easy. I will sometimes alternate with ground turkey or even ground buffalo if I can find it. I may swap out my 1/2 cup of brown rice on resistance training days with a sweet potato.

On non-resistance training days, I don't eat any starchy carbs. The above diet stays the same and I up my veggie intake on these days. Brocc, salads, celery, carrots, peas, etc.. (no brown rice, no oatmeal, no sweet potatoes, etc...)

I'm 6'0, 214lbs, probably 10% BF, size 33 waist. This is my diet, year round. I don't bulk & then cut. I'm adding muscle and strength at a slow/steady pace.

just so everyone is clear on what this is about we should post the thread. http://www.superiormuscle.com/vbulle...ad.php?t=34980

your diet is sound. lets not put words in my mouth, i said diets like Atkins or something similar is a fad diet. the way you were talking made it sound like you were almost cutting out carbs entirely. you are eating about 250-300 grams of carbs a day. atkins or other low carb fads are much lower then that.

i will still say though that celery is pretty much worthless. your argument that it helps for people on low carb diets and for people that need fiber is pretty much a moot point with your diet. you are getting plenty of fiber and other nutrients from other areas in your diet, the celery really makes no difference. you can eat it if you want to, it wont hurt. i am simply saying that it doesn't have much of a benefit compared to the other foods in your diet.

p.s. I would change that last meal bro. Your eating nothing but fat before bed. I would change it to a Casein shake and 1 tbsp PB.

how many cals is that daily?

I'm curious because you say you don't lean and bulk, then what's your maintenance level (@ 214lbs) to gain muscle at a steady pace?

Diet doesn't look bad bro (although you do need to slightly adjust that last meal like B said but chicken etc would work just as good as a powder IMO) - as for the "greens" I'm a firm believer that they're great when cutting - "negative" calories like this help keep you full AND they keep your metabolism running (consider the thermic food index here) as it's having to digest the food regardless of nutrient breakdown etc AND they typically help keep you drier/leaner than when you try to eliminate them from your cutting diet (I've seen it happen many times in contest prep that when someone tries to cut carbs too low by getting rid of "empty" ones from greens they end up holding way more water and they cannot get nearly as shredded as they would if they left them in the diet - trust me here - I made the mistake with my second show this year and I know two guys in the show who had the same problem and we all looked much better for our first show and the only changes we made were taking out greens etc)...

Good point, I agree. Casein digests slower than whey correct? I've never bought Casein before. Is there a particular brand/flavor you can recommend?

On non-workout days I keep my carbs under 100. I know that is a little lower than most of you guys do, but i'm carb sensitive and have low blood sugar. I up my greens big time on these days and it works for me. I usually have plenty of energy. My enemy is sugar, if I eat any at all, I spike and then get a headache and feel awful for the rest of the day.

This is also something that John Berardi preaches over on precisionnutrition.com. He claims that the body doesn't handle starchy carbs as well on non workout days. I'll try to dig up some of his articles related to this.
