Moved to the appropriate forum.
Rule of thumb is to eliminate the obviously 'bad' stuff first:
1. simple sugars, as red already pointed out
2. high 'bad' fat foods, like fried foods and fatty cuts of meat, and cheese
After you do that, take a look at your level of activity and total calories. Are you using more calories in a day than you are consuming? If not, you're not going to lose weight, so either up your activity level (cardio), reduce your caloric intake, or a combination of the two.
Simple works. Fad stuff like ultra low-carb, liquid diets, ect will usuall result in temporary weightloss followed by a rebound that puts you back to square one or even worse than you were in the first place.
Giving us some more information would help. Keep a log of everything you TYPICALLY eat and do in a day, then post it in this thread. From there, it will be easier to guide you.
