  • Hot chocolate and chai protein

It's cold outside. I want a hot drink. Why not make it a protein drink? I've been making hot chocolate protein, chai protein, and this morning a gingerbread protein latte with Isopure cookies and cream, a cup of nf milk, a shot of sf gingerbread syrup and a holiday coffee blend. That was a nice breakfast along with half a sweet potato and some turkey breast.

Main trick is to be careful with the heating; you don't want to make a mess of the whey protein you're using. Heat the liquid then add the protein, blend and drink.

Sugar free syrups add flavor without empty calories, so I keep'em in stock for having more fun with my protein drinks. Unsweetened cocoa is a must-have for making protein hot chocolate. I like Splenda for the sweetener, and a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg to top it off.

Protein eggnog also rocks. Separate a bunch of eggs, beat the crap out of the whites with a pinch of cream of tartar, then beat a few of the yolks with Splenda and whatever your milk base is. I like Hood's Calorie Countdown. If you don't want to use all the yolks, substitute Egg Beaters, and I'd also suggest some flavoring, like a sugar free syrup. I just use all the yolks, which makes it a high calorie drink but a tasty one. And yeah, that's raw eggs, so make sure you use a clean source of eggs. I don't recommend heating this one as it can coagulate.

Sounds pretty good. Question for ya though, does the heat destroy the protein in any way?

Heat can make whey clump up, and cooking whey probably messes with its values some, which is why I suggest heating the liquid first, just to pleasantly hot drinkable temperature, then mixing in the protein.
