How come you don't use something with carbs? Like a grapefruit juice or something? I remember you saying that was good? Is there a reason you might recommend it to someone who has different goals, etc?Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Posti take a big cup and add in my vitargo and whey, i put a fork in there and then cover the cup with some plastic and put a rubber band over it. when i get done working out i mix in some water an have my shake on my way home.

yes but i think your oats, sweet potatoes, pasta, etc at each meal is going to get the job done when your ready to hit the weights again and i dont think it take as much (carbs) to replenish glycogen as ppl think. the other 1/2 of the goal is to create an insulin spike which fructose can do aswell. I personally think the fructose is fine in PWO shakes if you can do fresh/frozen berrys over corn syrup fruit juices then you get the benifits which is more important than just carbs. IMO dextrose = good marketingOriginally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postapple juice is not dextrose. apple juices form of sugar is Fructose. fructose is far inferior to dextrose at replacing muscle glycogen.Last edited by NYCmitch25; 02-21-08, 09:47 AM.

well your wrong bro. dextrose is a basic corn sugar that is for the most part not sold in many health food stores. so your "good marketing" argument doesn't really work. there is really no company pushing dextrose. dextrose replenishes muscle glycogen much faster then fructose. its a simple science and that is why it is used, not because of marketing.Originally posted by NYCmitch25 View Postyes but i think your oats, sweet potatoes, pasta, etc at each meal is going to get the job done when your ready to hit the weights again and i dont think it take as much (carbs) to replenish glycogen as ppl think. the other 1/2 of the goal is to create an insulin spike which fructose can do aswell. Umm yeah - I hadn't been on that site in a while but their prices have gone WAY up (at least on the things I used to buy from there) - you're probably better off running a search on NOW Foods....Originally posted by fog_hat1981 View PostI can buy dextrose from one of several local healthfood stores but it is cheaper on Power Nutrition . well, i meant marketing to ppl like us or who have a gym membership. corn products are lobbied BIG time...(ADM - adams-daniel-midland i think) ever heard of Ethenol for cars. its a shit replacement ot petrolleum leaves a bigger carbon imprint on environment. they created an artificail demand of sugar. corn syrup is in everything like gatorade for "atheletes." it is a billion dollar industry. if it were more popular im sure it would be in health food stores. i guess i dont understand how is it any different then high fructose corn syrup which is the main ingrediant in most fruit juices (unless you buy 100% fruit juice which nobody could afford for every shake). sure dextrose is a much cheaper way of doing it but is it any better i dont know. i know what your getting at your not wrong i must be confused about it. its just seems like bs to me - corn byproduct.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postwell your wrong bro. dextrose is a basic corn sugar that is for the most part not sold in many health food stores. so your "good marketing" argument doesn't really work. there is really no company pushing dextrose. dextrose replenishes muscle glycogen much faster then fructose. its a simple science and that is why it is used, not because of marketing.Last edited by NYCmitch25; 02-21-08, 02:08 PM.

we are talking about the sugar that is found in apple juice. it is fructose, not dextrose. fructose replaces muscle glycogen at a much slower rate then does dextrose. when we are talking PWO shake.. slow = bad.Originally posted by NYCmitch25 View Postwell, i meant marketing to ppl like us or who have a gym membership. corn products are lobbied BIG time...(ADM - adams-daniel-midland i think) ever heard of Ethenol for cars. its a shit replacement ot petrolleum leaves a bigger carbon imprint on environment. they created an artificail demand of sugar. corn syrup is in everything like gatorade for "atheletes." it is a billion dollar industry. if it were more popular im sure it would be in health food stores. i guess i dont understand how is it any different then high fructose corn syrup which is the main ingrediant in most fruit juices (unless you buy 100% fruit juice which nobody could afford for every shake). sure dextrose is a much cheaper way of doing it but is it any better i dont know. i know what your getting at your not wrong i must be confused about it. its just seems like bs to me - corn byproduct.

dextrose is a monosaccharide, that is chain of glucose molecules that the can digest quickly.
Apple juice contains fructose, with is a disaccharide, means slighty more complex chains of glucose
So technically dextrose should digest faster than apple juice
As long as ur pwo shake doesn't contain a polysaccharide than u should be fine. Polysaccharides contain many complex chains of glucose and take much longer to digest than mono and disaccharides (hence a potato, full of chains of poly-saccarides)
Yes, disaccharides take longer to digest than monosaccharides, but it really shouldn't make that much of a difference, IMO.

BTW I remember reading about Cutler taking his PWO protein powder with some coke in a bowl.... Thats niether here nor there though, just commenting
Alright, so I plan to get the Vitargo CGL within the next week. In the mean time, what would be my best option for quick intake of protein/water shake PWO?
On another thought, I haven't used Creatine in in about 10 or 11 years so I'll go do some reading up on that.
Now if any of you have a chance, I could use a bit more feedback on my "diet plan" thread.

Where is YJ for this - the fructose argument could be summed up in just a few sentences of pure genius if that little bastard would bless us with his knowledge on how fructose essentially does NOTHING for muscle glycogen even if it does/does not digest just as quickly - that and I would like to hear his view on what NYC said about disregarding the fact that apple juice contains "some" fructose BUT is mainly concentrated corn syrup which would essentially be dextrose anyways (unless it is 100% juice)???
