  • nutriion advice for 14yr old

I was wondering if you could help out with some advice for my friend’s autistic child.
He is 14 years old 4’-10” and 80lb. He is having trouble growing so the doctors have prescribed him HGH a year or so ago. He has not grown that much or gained much weight as of yet. I suggested that she gets him into some sort of exercise program, proper nutrition, and supplementation regiment. I also advised she should ask the doctor before beginning such a program. I figured I would ask in hopes to get some good advice. Maybe some of you have had a similar circumstance or experience.

So far I suggested some protein shakes and eating more healthy food spaced throughout the day. I would appreciate any feedback and understand that some of you are not doctors and will let her know to ask her doctor before beginning any supplementation. Thanks.

I really wouldn't suggest supplements for him. That's kind of like suggesting a car needs low profile tires when it doesn't even have an engine. Point being, he needs to get the basics down and focus on what the problem is.

It sounds to me like the only problem is he doesn't eat enough. Ask her what an average day of eating is like for him.

I will ask her about his eating habits. I suggested that she seek advice from a nutritional advisor to get them on tract. I am just surprised that after being on HGH that he did not grow much. I am even more surprised the Doctor has not worked with them on his diet. I guess that proves the fact that no matter what you take you will not see results until you adjust your diet.

GH cannot work if he is malnourished. i hate doctors that just throw drugs at people and neglect the cause of the problem.
