I have nature valley granola bars I eat, I have 100 calorie packs of snacks I eat. Lays Baked chips are the devil, fruit (bananas, or apples generally). So nothing God-awful, but things that Id rather avoid at 9, 10, 11, or midnight.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postgive me an example of what you might eat.

This may work for dieting but trust me you will wake up one day and bamm 10 years have gone by.Originally posted by fog_hat1981 View PostStructure structure structure - you can't get bored or hungry if you're running your life/diet like clockwork - it's the ONLY way I can do shows because ANY downtime or time that wasn't scheduled/planned made my mind weak to my body's temptations....

Have you tried keeping water right there and drinking it instead of eating something? I do that sometimes as well and it really starves off that 'wanting to eat anything' feeling I get. I know at some point in time people tell you not to drink it because even retained water can be a killer, but I get the impression you aren't trying to get to that point.Originally posted by YellowJacket View PostMy discipline breaks down after about 9pm. When I theoretically should be in bed, Im up, working, and tend to eat not complete garbage but things I know arent helping my cause.

Yep and Im over a gallon of water a day. This was common practice and first but its not too effective anymore. My body just doesnt buy it anymore.Originally posted by NewbieChris View PostHave you tried keeping water right there and drinking it instead of eating something? Let me just say Im not freaking out too much about all this, I want to be more vascular, more ripped, cut away the fat and look good, BUT my main goal is just cutting weight. Sure Id like all or most of that to be fat, thats why Im starting 5 weeks in advance. Im not the traditional fighter who likes to cut the weight a week out, Id rather do it on my own terms. Im just pissed off that I feel like I cant make myself do this. Ever since my interest has shifted from bodybuilding to mma and Ive gotten off the illicit drugs, Im struggling (read: fighting with myself) to cut weight (fat) like a bodybuilder.

Well brother I'm not familiar with the exact diet you're attempting to stick to but first things first - if the foods that tempt you at night aren't a part of your diet then get them the f' out of your house NOW - unless your wife/girlfriend just has to keep the stuff around there is absolutely no need for it in your home - if you keep it around for a cheat meal on a scheduled day etc I still say get rid of it and go out and buy it on the day you're supposed to eat it etc - having it in your house otherwise is just asking for trouble...
Also - every show I have ever done has put me on a schedule something similar to this....
5am - wakeup
1am - go to sleep
Some days I got to bed even later than that - I've been in school with more than a full load of classes and a job for every show I've had to get ready for so burning the candle at both ends was pretty much necessary (that and I couldn't sleep well at that point in my life anyway) - so this is what I suggest because it worked for me....
Include the fact that you "might" be up this late posting nonsense on SM (oops - I meant to say working *cough*cough*) into your diet and don't deviate from it - I had a diet written out for weekends because I knew I would sleep in until about 7am and I had backup diets written out for days when I knew I would be up extra late studying or days I scheduled myself a break on cardio at 5:30a etc etc - IF you have to stay up until 2am to work/study then adjust your diet accordingly and stick a chicken and broccoli/rice meal in your night at 10p and maybe just chicken and vegetables or maybe even just vegetables at 1am etc. In other words - STRUCTURE can still happen even if things have to be adjusted for "life" - hell - I was in school during finals taking 21 hours, going through a divorce and dealing with bullsh*t custody issues, essentially going through a gut wrenching "breakup" at the same time and of course putting in my usual hours at work and living in an extended stay hotel for almost three weeks before one of my shows and while it made it that much harder I just had to adapt/adjust (and we all know that if *I* can do it with my estrogen induced tendencies then you can pull it off for sure :P)....
I realize dieting for a fight might not require you to be as strict as if you were doing a show but I can assure you that if you want it bad enough you'll get rid of that sh*t in your house and sit down at your desk with an EXTRA gallon of water on top of what you normally drink along with chicken and vegetables in a tupperware dish next to you when you get ready to do your work at 9pm if your job demands it - good luck bro ;)

I agree with that philosophy and do my best to abide by it BUT when it comes to getting ready for a show I *have* to operate like a machine or I simply won't make it through those days/nights where I feel like giving up for the sake of keeping my sanity...Originally posted by ROCKETW19 View PostThis may work for dieting but trust me you will wake up one day and bamm 10 years have gone by.

The worst part about not having structure in EVERYTHING was not always the hunger because often times I wasn't all that hungry - the worst part was the doubt/fear that if I didn't stick to things 100% and then I stood on stage and ended up second I would always second guess myself and if I worked/tried hard enough - anytime I was ever tempted to give in to something that wasn't on my diet I would envision standing on stage with that particular food item stuck on my worst body part with the crowd shaking their heads at me for shaming myself - fortunately for me I realized that the ONLY way I could overcome those issues with dieting was to become so preoccupied by my *schedule* and keeping that structure that I never allowed my mind to get too far off track :breakit:

Thanks for the post fog...I have shit laying around, basically left over from when I was bulking/maintaining. Unfortunately, work keeps me up late researching and reading and then I present in the mornings and afternoons so Im obligated to sit in front of a PC or a book for hours of my own time basically. Im up at 7am every morning, but going to sleep is a nightmare.
