  • early morning dilemma

Its been awhile between posts but i have come across a situation and what better group of people to ask then yall. I am not trying to gain mass anymore,i am working on cutting/maintaining but my schedule has changed and i am forced to lift AND do cardio early in the morning at 6am. I am not sure what to do about pre and post workout nutrition/supplementation. this is what i am thinking but i could be way off...

pre- 1 scoop whey, 1 medium banana, 1 whole wheat bagel

    lift,then cardio

post- 1 scoop whey 20 min. later with brown rice/broccoli/peas/black beans

let me know what you think,i am sure i need more carbs preworkout but i cant stomach plain oats and was wondering about being too full while trying to lift?? thanks for any help

If you are trying to cut, then you need to dump the bagels. Bagels are really chuck full of carbs. If you have to work out in the morning, and you are wanting to lean up, you need to start with enough nutrients to get you through the workout, but not so much so that you don't get to your fat stores when doing cardio. You actually have an advantage of getting to workout on an empty stomach. So, here's what I would suggest:

PRE- Keep the 1 scoop of protein & the banana. Add 2 TBSP natty PB

POST- 2 scoops of whey & 1 TBSP of natty PB. If possible, try and stretch that solid food meal to about an hour PWO. The nutrients you injest PWO are used up immediately. If you eat a larger meal soon after that, it can take your body longer to digest since it has all that food in your belly. And, by pushing that meal back an hour or so, your body doesn't burn it off as fast, making you not as hungry later.

I don't like this at all. I'd go with the scoop of whey post workout and then about 20-30 minutes after the whey, I'd eat a lean protein source along with the brown rice and brocolli.

maybe i didnt word it correctly,my plan was to have the protein right after and then 20 minutes later eat the rice mix..i was also going to add chicken to the rice and broccoli i just rushed through that part. I mostly just dont know what is best for preworkout food and supplements to have my body fueled for the long, early workout. i appreciate all the input, keep it coming

If you are trying to lean up, as I stated before, don't eat too much pre workout since you have the advantage of working on out on a mostly empty stomach.

i just make it days before and have it all mixed so i can get some vegtables in me. I love chicken but eating 2 or 3 pieces a day, everyday just is boring. I have tuna and salmon in my diet also for proteins,i just dont know if i want to add the chicken to the mix postworkout but i usually do and most likely will continue to.
