  • replace chicken meal with flank meal.. thoughts

    was thinking about replacing one of my chicken and rice meals with flank steak and rice. now i already have flank in meal 6. so this would be flank steak twice per day. to much? give me your opinions. thanks

    I would not change it if you high cholesterol or a history of it in your family.

    Other than that, whats wrong with steak twice a day????

        I eat two beef meals a day at the moment sometimes more, I don't see a problem with this since I do 1/2 fast walk after every workout, I' finding the creatine from the steak is keeping my strength somewhere like while I'm off

          I agree with dna...if cholesterol isn't an issue, go for it. I've always felt beef is a superior protein to chicken.

                If you add another beef meal, I wouldn't eat rice with it. Actually, what you could do is- have a beef & rice meal earlier in the day, and drop the rice with the beef for meal 6.

                  Fully agree, majority of carbs especially simple carbs should be eaten earlier in the day when cortisol levels are low, cortisol has a negative impact on insulin function.

                      no, leave it alone as is. I would avoid the 2nd serving of red meat. I would keep the beans and rice. someone of your size should needs to get the fiber. plus the beans and rice combined make a complete protein althought not perfect. the chicken (white meat) and chicken eggs are a superior form of protien if not at least equivilant. there are method sused to determine this such as the Biological Value (BV)

                      Chicken egg: 94[12]
                      Cow milk: 90[12]
                      Cheese: 84[13]
                      Rice: 83[13]
                      Fish: 76[14]
                      Beef: 74.3[14]

                      ... yes red meat and whole eggs is one of the most "anabolic foods" but its b/c of saturated fats and cholesterol. since flank steak in particular is low in fat i feel its just an ok choice. red meat is considered a carcinogen Red meat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (just quick lookup up for the post, i know this from other more extensive research articles) "Recent studies indicate that red meat could pose a notable increase in cancer risk."

                      say for instance you follow that logic anabolic foods = saturated fat diets such as mark p'qualilles "anabolic foods" or chris barr "the anabolic index:" you would also add salami, sausage, milk, ham, pork, etc. all high in saturated fats... besides the obvious coronary and plaque concerns saturated fats increase inflammation in your body with the wrong omega's which lends to increase chances of tendititis and disease. how do you cook it? offen red meat is grilled or fried and the carbon is bad too (i wont bore you with that).

                      i would only change it if you nedd a change and you are tired of chicken. personally i would opt for egg white none of this 1 whole egg crap. bottom line one servering of red meat a day is enough. if you descide to change it just do it a couple days a week on lifting days say legs and back day or somehting like that ... I wouldnt make it the norm...

                        i think we have to be careful about how much we read into things also. you can find bad info with any food.

                        i wouldn't want to drop the brown rice as the point of this is a clean bulk. cutting out the rice would result in less total cals.

                            one point to remember, I bought some lean steak mince today; 11 grams fat and 19 grams protien per 100g, then I bought some diced lean beef and I just checked the stats

                            Holy poo! 2 grams fat per 100g, 34g protien per 100g!!!

                            So you see it depends what beef you chose
