  • Blood sugar bottoming out during cardio- Any Ideas?

The last few weeks it feels like my blood sugar is bottoming out about 20 minutes into evening cardio. Getting light headed, legs kinda numb feeling and a little nausous. I am borrowing a glucose meter from a friend to confirm that is the case.

Typically, I will lift weights/cardio in the morning and have another cardio session in the evening(about 5 days a week this is the schedule). My morning cardio is typically intense and the evening is more just duration. I feel great in the morning... The diet was real low carb but adding carbs doesn't seem to help. I eat about 7 and this is usually around 8:30. I have tried sipping a gatorade but that to me just defeats the purpose of the cardio. I am now following a typical bodybuilder diet with 6 meals and around 300gr of pro.

Bottom line is I put on fat very easily and it is damn hard to take off. I am as close as I have ever been to my goals and feel like dual cardio sessions are necessary at this point. Any Ideas/suggestions

Are you taking any pre workout stuff when you get this feeling? cafien(sp?) does it to me alot. I get all shaky and sweaty.

Your not dieabetic are you? have you had a doc check?

I'm the same way when I low carb. After about 25 min of cardio, I get the cold sweats, heavy hands, etc. I know you're trying to lose, but taking in some Gatorade or even a teaspoon or two of brown sugar will in no way defeat your efforts. Your blood sugar is so low, and the metabolism is so high that it immediately burns off.

No pre workout stuff... I have taken a few OTC fat burners but, nothing at the moment.

Don't think so.... I am going to make an appointment for some bloodwork just because it has been a few years.

Thanks for the reassurance... I will give it a try.

What levels are your blood sugars dropping down too?

I did cardio yesterday in the mid-afternoon without any issues. I had a glucose meter on standby in case I felt it was getting low. Prior to getting on the treadmill it was 75(about an hour after having a protein shake with natural pb). I have cardio planned for this evening so we will see.

Alright I finally had it happen again... About 20 minutes in I started getting cold sweats. I measured my glucose and it was 50. I drank about 8 ozs of gatorade and jumped back on the treadmill about 5 minutes later. I did another 20 minutes without any issues.

I have an appt for bloodwork the first week of June just to rule out anything else.
