If you had no grape juice/Whey available PWO, would you knock of a mars bar or bowl of coco pops to get blood sugar up, or go without any PWO?

My reading indicates fructos, maltos and dextros is the way to go, but are they marginally better than sucros, or is sucros a no-no?

Never go with out PWO shake and dextrose sugar/grape juice in my case but never go with out. You need that in your system as fast as possible after training

The more I read, the more I am convinced that the only thing that matters nutrition wise is the 2 hour window before and after working out. All else, what you have for breakfast, 8 meals a day, casein before bedtime, midnight protein, etc etc are of virtually no consequence in the big picture.

You couldn't be more wrong. Eat shit and your body will look like shit no matter what time of day you eat it. Why would you even say something so stupid as smart as you are.

You are misunderstanding me. I am not saying you can eat crap. In fact hitting your macros is pretty important. I am talking about the bro beliefs about getting protein into your body ASAP after waking up to prevent catabolism, eating 8 meals a day to keep blood sugar levels constant, etc etc. None of these things are supported by science. I think the only things that really matter are good pre workout nutrition to keep energy levels high in the gym, and good post wo nutrition. Micromanaging beyond that is not that important IMO.

I think 8 meals is to much but lets say you only eat all your cals before and after working out and then have no more meals. You just will not be feeding your body optimily.

5-6 meals is superior to 2 massive ones. Don't believe it? Try it. Get all your cals in 2 meals and report back.

You went with 8 meals which is extreme, so I am running with 2 meals, the other extreme. :D

                I'm not so sure.

Yes, eating 2500 calories in 2 meals may be a bit much, but I don't believe there's a fundamental metabolic reason why the calories have to be spread out over a long period of time.

There's something called intermittent fasting (IF) where you basically fast for 18 hours and eat all your daily calories in 8 hours. For example, you eat all your food between noon and 8pm and then go to bed and not eat anything until noon the next day. There seems to be a lot of evidence of this method's effectiveness in staying lean around the year.

So, I think having as many or as few meals as one finds convenient is fine. I am not convinced that there is any metabolic or endocrinological basis for spreading meals over a long period of time during the day.

i would agree that 5 meals a day may be exactly the same in terms of metabolism and muscle gain as 7 meals per day as long as the cals are the same.

but i will not agree that 2 massive meals where you stuff yourself are as good as 5 more spaced out and less extreme meals.

I think keeping a study flow of nutrition protien, clean carbs, omega 3's, calories over the day works best. As far as pwo I agree with Bouncer simple carbs/protien immediatly after training. I never go more than 3 hours without eating. Also I have to watch the size of my meals to give my body time to properly digest. Like using dbol 3x day split up worked much better for me than one large dose before training. Keeping your body with a steady flow of nutrition throughout the day imo is very important.

Is it the fat that u don't like? Coco pops have virtually no fat.

However the real question was if the choice was nothing or a carb source heavily based on sucrose, is sucrose better than nothing.

I normally have grape juice+whey/casien, but the other day I got a call at the gym and had to leave straight away and had option of nothing for 2 hours or ram down a bowl of coco pops with skim - I went the food over nothing.

Ahh, yea you did the right thing. Any carb source is better then nothing.

Always appreciate your nutrition advice scrum. I'm starting back on lyles next week. I did 6 weeks last time and went from 9% to 6% only losing 2kg gross weight:thumup:

As per response to bouncer, I probably did not ask the question clearly. I agree on grape/fast acting protien pro being the ideal. However if you had the choice of eating nothing pwo for 2 hours (due to circumstances out of your control), or eating a bowl of high simple carb (sucrose based) low fat cereal, would you go the junk food, or go without anything.

I went the food - mainly because I would be chewing my own arm off within an hour - I get really hungry pwo
