  • Pre-workout Nutrition

A lot of people talk about their PWO shake/meals, but I've found that my pre-workout meal/shakes are equally important to keep me powered through my workout. PWO doesn't matter if you have a shitty workout. What do people do for pre-workout nutrition and/or supplements?

I usually have a meal with adequate carbs about 1.5 hours before the workout and a cup of black coffee about 45 minutes before. That gives me plenty of energy to power through the workout.

So, is adequate carbs more than your standard meal? I guess I have a stronger stomach, so I'm not a risk for puking in the gym (most of the time), so I eat about 45 minutes before the gym. I try to keep more fat out of that meal and keep it higher carbs and moderate protein. Usually looking at about 75g carbs and 30g protein. Then I do a NO/caffeine shake about 30 minutes before. Curious what others do for their macronutrient ratio and supplements.

I like to wait at least two hours after the last meal before working out. With legs sometimes I'll wait 3-4 hours.

Normal meal preworkout such as 1-1.5C rice or potato, and 6-8oz of any lean meat.

THe last guy I was paying had me eating steak/potato before every workout.

I have a high carb, moderate protein.low fat meal or shake 1.5-2 hours before training. On my way to the gym I have a STRONG cup of coffee,,around 16oz.

Or if you don't like coffee, take a caffeine pill (200mg) about half an hour or 45 min before working out.

I try not to eat meat within 90min of working out. I do oatmeal with pure maple syrup added about 45 min before a workout. I take my pwo drink 30 minutes before with a scoop of bcaa's added. I sip a bcaa drink during the workout.

I cant stand working out with a belly of food. I have been working out at lunchtime for months now after my breakfast...about 3.5 hours. Then I do a PWO shake right afterwards and then eat a meal about 20 min after that. It seems to work for me, I just cant work out with food in my belly... I get heartburn and gas bad doing that.
