  • Diet for teenagers

Need some help putting together a diet for teens. Over the past 2 years I have been involved in a program with high school kids. I’m always being asked to help with their workout routine and diet. I struggle putting together a decent diet for 2 reasons. A lot of times their parents don’t have a lot of money. Obviously buying chicken, turkey, steak, ect… cost more than a lot of other non-nutritional foods. Also during school they really don’t have time to eat in-between classes. Most can only eat 3 times a day. Any recommendations?

just shit you already know. whole, fresh, natural products. veggies, fruits, grains, protein sources etc..

but that really depends on the parents bro. cant really put together any sort of diet if the parents are idiots.

True but… How many teens are going to cook their chicken and rice for the week to take to school? Not many. Doubt the school has a microwave for the students to use to warm up lunches. I was thinking something “healthier” than what they are currently eating would be:

Breakfast - Protein shake & instant oatmeal
Lunch – pack of tuna, 2 slices of whole grain bread, fruit
Dinner – Lean protein (chicken, turkey, fish, steak, ect…), potato, green veggie
Before bed – cup of cottage cheese

with most teens its the obvious things - high sodium, saturated fats (fast food), sugar and white flour (corn syrup) snacks.

Stay away from the sodas,,,chips,,,candy..are some basics. I tell alot of clients to eat similar frame of mind as a diabetic.
