  • PWO shakes are crap

Haven't had a PWO shake in months. Got rid of the surgery ass grape juice and protein powder and replaced it with a real food meal. (chicken and rice) I don't look any different, if anything I look better. If you have the time to have a real meal instead of a PWO shake I would suggest you do it.

I have come to the conclusion for me at least that sugar is the enemy. Even the accepted "quick acting carbs PWO is best" idea just doesn't hold up IMO. Only time I have any sort of sugar is in my morning shake which is a banana and some craisens. All other carbs come from oats and rice. About 300 grams of carbs per day.

I need to cut out grape juice and peanut butter. Too much sugar and fat. But I love them both and actually crave them. The juice after a workout all I can think about is that ice cold blast of sugar. And about an hour after breakfast I crave my pbj. That is truly the extent of my 'junk'.

i don't consider the PB to be junk. its more about the timing. don't want to be having them that close together. sugar and fat to close together = storage.

That's why I put it in quotes. It's not really junk but it's not ideal. I figure it's early enough in the day that I'll burn it off.

Glad you brought it up. I did the same thing. Its been about 8 months now. I dont notice any difference if anything better results. If I do have the shake its in water and I have the meal anyway an hour PWO. I always thought it was just great marketing.

Guys, Peanuts and most peanut butter is loaded with mycotoxins. I recommend you do a bit of research on this and see whether or not you want to continue eating it. I have cut it out of my diet completely. And I agree with Bouncer on the PWO crap. It's bro science. Eat a meal with real food within that 2-3 hour window post workout and you'll be better for it and you'll save money.

I dont beleive in shakes anymore. Real food is what I try get all of my protien and carbs from. I buy BCAA though and have 3 servings before and after my workout with Gaterade(post) and then with grape juice after workout. The grape jucie gives me about 80 grams of sugar, for the insulin spike. (so ive read). But i carb up all day before I workout and shoot for about 60 slow digesting carbs before i hit the gym.

drop the sugar, you will like it better. the "slin spike" looks good on paper, not so in my experience.

I take a pwo usually every day because of the convenience. But real food is much more satisfying.

You know what else is pretty much crap? PCT. I've done with and without and haven't noticed much different in recovery.

You need to rewrite the books on everything. Nutrition, cycling, work out regimes, pct. You got it all figured out bro. :clapback:

No I don't, but I do challenge all the bro science out there. My PCT theory is just from my own experience. I have no science or studies to back it up, I just don't see a big difference when I use it or don't use it. I crash either way for the most part.
