Well most of it is indeed cooked up by the damn supplement industry, but they need some type of research to establish credibility. I'm a firm believer that food is just as good if not better.

Ah, there lies the rub. The supplement industry has ZERO incentive to do any research. The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act, thanks to the patrons in Congress like Sen. Orrin Hatch, has set the bar ridiculously low for supplements. Basically, supplements can claim just about anything they want. The ONLY thing they cannot claim to do is to cure a disease. As long as they don't do that and add explicit disclaimers in small print that the product does not cure any disease, they are good to go.

Why would they not research, you may ask? They better question is, why would they? They would be crazy to. What is the research going to show? If they did the trials in a rigorous double or triple blinded placebo-controlled fashion, they would find out in all likelihood that their supplements do nothing like what they claim. There is only downside to testing, since they can already claim just about anything they want without spending a penny on testing.

It really is an outrageous situation, but the supplement industry has deep pockets and enough friends in Congress to ensure that nothing changes anytime soon.

Good post ^, but jeez.. Gotta love the world we live in. I swear I always see research done on this and that on their products, maybe its just done in a few or maybe just not in the proper way. Regardless, food is better in my opinion, makes u feel fuller and u know to some extent what you are really eating/drinking.

Also, one of the last things I want to do after I lift is sit down to a meal. I have zero appetite.
