I posted once before looking for some reading on GMO's and such. It's hard to find an unbiased opinion.

    Either way - not good.

With GMOs, it is always important to separate the corporate practices of the company from the science of GMO. The biggest problem with the anti-GMO groups is that they have a very hard time keeping the two separate.

It is perfectly fine disagreeing with Monsanto's corporate practices. Is it ok for them to genetically modify their seeds so that they force the farmers to come back to them to buy more seeds the next year? Depends on your point of view - lots of NGOs treat Monsanto like the devil because of practices like this, but again, this has nothing to do with the science of GMO.

And speaking of science, there is very little credible science that GMO is bad for you. In fact, there is plenty of science that it has no deleterious effects. Should precautions be taken regarding GMO farming? Of course! Introducing a new set of genes into the environment should always be done carefully, but having a knee jerk reaction against GMO is scientifically dishonest.

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine which is quoted in the first link is far from a neutral player. Anti-GMO is one of many of their dubious positions, others being mercury in vaccines, anti-fluoridation, etc. There is so much science agsint a lot of their positions that frankly, their credibility is nonexistent.

Quackwatch (Quackwatch) is a good reference for real science and for helping separate the grain from the chaff, as it were. Another good reference that I like to read is Science Based Medicine (Science-Based Medicine). These are legitimate websites run by doctors that follow the principles of evidence based medicine.

I disagree with you. The problem is that there have been very few long term credible on GMO's either way in the United States. The article I posted was from Europe and of course is specific to one type of GMO.

The issue I have is that until there is conclusive scientific evidence one way or the other people should be able to tell whats in their food...Producers, and lets be honest, Monsanto is the number one producer of genetically modified seed..its not bias, its just fact. If you look at the board of directors you can see this is absolutely big business corporation with huge lobbying power. They also have a history of putting shit into the environment and consumers that have eventually been proven disastrous when properly studied---I believe they produced 99% of the PCB's used in the U.S. until they were banned. They also developed recombinant bovine somatotropin (also known as rBST and rBGH), a synthetic hormone that increases milk production by 11–16% when injected into cows, which is controversial to say the least.

Just a little bit of google-fu on that company will provide you with a wealth of information on what kind of scruples and decision making they execute. They are a biotech company out to make money, plain and simple and have lobbied and paid much politically. And now, if you read the Monsanto Act, largely sponsored by them and have been given free reign to put it into the food supply of consumers with little to no labeling or comprehensive research. Just saying..

Again, I think we seem to be conflating two different things. I am not saying that corporations will never put profits first and I all for appropriate oversight. But that has nothing to do with the safety or otherwise of genetically modified crops. It is possible to do dispassionate science and let it speak for itself and that is what we need to do. Invoking "big pharma" or "big biotech" or whatever to dismiss the science is not a intellectually credible approach.

Monsanto and FDA are to cozy for me. New law regarding gmos just passed, we will see more pass in the near future.

Government needs to control food, healthcare, weapons, and currency to dictate the people. We are headed down the road folks, buckle the fuck up.

What science? There hasn't been any on an unbiased level in the United States up to this point, and that is kind of my point. By lobbying for legislation and politics that allows for them to introduce this into the food supply without appropriate scientific study you can't help but shake your head at the dollar signs involved. Then you are left with the global science, hence the article I posted. And the University of Caen where this was done isn't exactly quack central, it has some pedigree. But in the end it becomes a finger pointing expedition.

I invoke "big pharma" because they are the reason that scientific research in terms of long term effects NOR labeling this type of food isn't/wasn't needed and probably won't be with this current administration-hell with the amount of money involved probably not any administration,..it will like PCB's when people start getting sick they will look at it in depth

It is certainly getting harder and harder to know whats in your food.

Below is the link to the study I posted earlier..

Yes that is becoming a huge issue. A guy in Oregon was sentenced to jail for collecting rain water and snow runoff ....on his own property. I shit you not. Pretty crazy when the government can regulate water falling from the sky, or snow melting. Additionally, Oregon state law says that if you want to store any water at all you have to apply for a permit. Crazy. All part of that "you must depend on the guvmint' mentality" that has procreated the last decade or so.

No but it would not be prudent having more than the FDIC insured maximum amount in any account.

Not your savings account, but your retirement account is a focus of his. It is being pushed as a focus on the wealthy, but the reality is that it has the potential to affect everyone. And more importantly, like anything once the government begins to regulate it, they won't stop. Spend tax, Tax Spend. And they do it all under the guise of trimming a 16 TRILLION dollar deficit. There is no trimming..just looking for ways to grab more money from citizens to offset this bullshit freeloading mentality.

While you and I disagree on quite a few things, we don't on your above statement, especially on the last line. The majority of people want to stand in the governments bread line and the price we are paying as Americans is our right to be free and an increasing governmental control of our lives. All of which fly in the face of the core that our nation was founded on and that's smaller government not bigger. People that think the government has their best interest at heart truly are foolish. Any government throughout history has sought to propagate its existence on the backs of its people. Only by regulating the government, minimizing its growth, and enacting the citizens will have you seen successful societies in history. This government is no different. Those in power seek to stay in power, expand their control, and subjugate the citizenry. If you truly are reading this and don't believe that's happening, educate yourself please before its way too late. Knowledge truly is power.
