  • Fasting

Ok so I'm not trying to fast completely or something. But I'm just curious about anybody's thoughts concerning eating quite a bit less than normal on a resting day. In order to cut, or lose some body fat. I just wonder how "detrimental" or "beneficial" it could be overall to eat much less.

There are a lot of people who follow Intermittent Fasting (IF). But this is basically fasting for 16 or 18 hours a day and cramming all your food into a 6-8 hour window. Not too hard to do if you are willing to fast until noon and finish dinner by 8pm. Just google intermittent fasting, or go to Intermittent fasting diet for fat loss, muscle gain and health for more details.

But what you are talking about I think is about fasting once a week or something. Probably nothing wrong with it, and it will allow you to have a nice cheat day and fast the next day.

Yea thanks man I will check it out for sure. I'm always looking for ideas. But yes I'm thinking more about the last part you said up there. I wouldn't do it if I was trying to bulk. But, while I'm trying to cut up a bit. I just don't want to do something that'd possibly lose too much on those days over a period of time. Even my cheat days have been only about "half cheating". So I feel like the day after I could, not quite fast, but eat very little but clean foods... I think I don't need nearly as many carbs as I thought. But I don't want to make too many or too big of changes at once.

Damn that's a good point too. I just don't wanna be bloated up but still wanna gain strength and weight right now.

You're not going to lose your strength or size by fasting for 1 day. Calculate your average daily intake over 1 week. Think about it, eating 500 KCal a day extra will make up for the fast.

I'd imagine not losing much. I just wondered about other thoughts. If there were any reasons why I'd possibly screw myself over by something like this. I appreciate the info and thoughts for sure.

I do a sort of a fast once per week. Its the day after my cheat day where I stuff myself like a pig. I won't eat until like 2 pm the next day. So that's like a 17-18 hour fast. I find that helps minimize the "spilling over" effect from eating like a pig.

Yea. I appreciate the responses. I've been so used to running lol. I'm just curious how my body might adjust, like metabolism and what my body will need for food and such. Just trying to find a good adjustment before I start thinking about some big gains. I respect all opinions, thoughts and facts.

If you are eating clean with one or two cheat meals a week why is the concern with bloat?

I sprained my foot pretty bad. It hasn't been long but I can see some difference. Feel a little different. I feel like the carbs are just piling up or something. I ate less rice today and feel better. Its just small stuff more than likely.

---Havent been running like normal. And actually like Gods Son said up there, I probably am eating up muscle as much as I normally run. My goal is to start gaining, but I don't want to get fat at all.

The trick is to do it very slowly. Shoot for 500Kcal/day higher than maintenance. Easiest way to get fat is to try to gain too fast.
