Yep, what the hell do those scientists know.. After all, all they did was to experimentally propose a very plausible mechanism for something that has been observed for a while now, that red meat consumption has been associated with an increased incidence of some types of cancer. And they published their peer reviewed results in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, which as we all know is a joke of an organization.

Meanwhile, there is a new PCT supplement made of toad's hair, unicorn blood and phoenix tears that the bros over at bb.com are plugging. I think 4 of them are vouching for it, which as we all know is more than enough sample size and experimental rigor.

This is the part I'm having trouble with.

"producing antibodies which spark inflammation, and eventually cancer."

The jump to cancer from inflammation is a big jump. Especially since cancer is prevalent in species that don't eat red meat. If they would have said it may increase the risk of cancer I would be more inclined to accept but to say it definitively causes it I refuse to believe. Especially since this was also said.
"The final proof in humans will be much harder to come by."
Testing in mice is helpful but not conclusive.

I suspect that any hyperbole is from the reporter, not the scientists. I haven't read the original work but I would wager it is a lot more conservative in its position, that what they have found is a prospective mechanism for the observation, but it would require a lot more research.

I'm basing my bullshit comment on the fact that our origins come from red meat. Humans and cavemen alike have been eating red meat for hundreds and hundreds of thousands of years.

I believe there is more to it. The type of red meat.. Modern sugar consumption in conjunction with red meat etc..

Processed red meat Vs lean steak is clearly the issue at hand

That is not a valid argument. Until less than a hundred years ago, average life expectancy was in the 40s or less. And cancer is primarily a disease of old age. This is the reason for the misconception that some diseases are more prevalent now than before. It may simply be because people are living longer to suffer from some of these diseases.

So does cancer come because of old age or red meat?

I'm not sure its as black and white as you want to make it.

How often do you guys eat red meat in a week? I usually have red meat 4 meals a week. Everything else is chicken. I do love medium rare steak. Awesome!
