My BMR is 2600 calories a day. My question is, I read that with too few calories your metabolism shuts down, different sites vary on the numbers, its anywhere from 1200-1800 calories a day for a male. According to MyFitnessPal, if I want to loose 2 pounds of fat a week I need to consume 2000 calories a day and burn 600 calories through working out. If I exercise and burn 1000 calories a day, will this affect my metabolism since my net caloric consumption is 1000 calories for the day? Do the calories I burn affect my metabolism?

From what I understand if you do a great caloric reduction, your metabolic adaptation causes your BMR to decrease but with exercise the decrease is reduced. But at what level is metabolic adaptation initiated, at any caloric reduction? I cannot find the answer.
Effects of dieting and exercise on resting metabolic rate and implications for weight management
So, when I lower my caloric consumption I will need to stay at that level because my body has adapted to me consuming that amount, if I raise my calories past what I was consuming and do not increase my activity level I will gain fat, correct?Last edited by AvidFisherman; 05-29-15, 10:24 AM.

AAH, something just clicked. This is why you all keep telling me to loose my excess weight through eating healthy and cardio. If I do not have those things down pact to where I continue to do them after I am done loosing weight, I will just gain the weight back... it only took me several months but I finally understand. lol

bro listen up.
7 ounce chicken breast with hot sauce, half cup of oats mixed with some fruit and a bit of honey, half an avacado.
eat that same meal 4 times per day.
dont tell me you cant eat the same shit all day either.
combine that diet with 45 minutes of cardio per day on top of your training. brisk walk at a slight incline.
simple as that. your lost in a world of numbers and articles. its all a bunch of shit if you cant get real and do whats needed.
do or do not. there is no try.

Agreed, your "quest for knowledge" is clouding your ability to see the simple things clearly. Eat clean, train, use gear if you see fit, and repeat. Worry about fine tuning and tiny details later when/if get the point of losing the last bit of stubborn fat. Right now, simple adherence to the basics will reap huge rewards.

I am just not wanting to mess myself up by going too extreme. I want to push myself but push myself safely. I have dropped to 2000 calories per day with my macros around 150-200g carbs, around 50g of fat and 125-150g of protein. I am trying to bump up my protein intake to at least 200-250g but on 2000 calories I am having a rough time of it.

You need to find what works for YOU, not what a book says..yes there is a science to it, but ultimately, you need to learn your body. As Bouncer said, you are reading more and more, and although the idea of learning as much as you can is good, it is confusing you and it is contradicting things you read previously. Obviously what you are doing now is not giving you the results you want, so start to alter it. The basics are protein, low glycemic carbs, healthy fats. Higher carbs on training days and lower on non training days, now start somewhere and alter the macros as you go based on your results. stop over complicating it!
