I think this formula for men and one for women should be stickies in the nutrition forum. It's rediculous how many times we have to give a link to this thread. Besides, it's a good starting point or checkup for virtually everybody.

I sticked it apon your request, pending Bouncer's approval. He has a great vison for how he wants the board, hence the reason it's so succsesful. Anyways, Shortz, please post what you have.

If you can find it with key words, I think that would be great and I will sticky it also (patent pending :D)

Does somebody have this formula handy--I'm trying to help out a friend that's not eating enough. I need to make sure my numbers are right on. Thanks!

YJ's post is confusing as it says this in the first paragraph...

Then it goes on into the example but uses the word "male" instead of female....

I think the numbers sound about right for a male, so I've always believed it's for a male. It would be great to have the equivalent for a female, though.

To match the Harris-Benedict formula YJ shows us, this is what I have found consistantly as the formula for women

Solving for Female Basal Metabolic Rate BMR
                  Harris-Benedict Procedure

                  655 + (9.6 x weight) + (1.8 x height) - (4.7 x age)

My result is 3611,19 kcal. How much can you drop from this in order to lose fat but not muscle or strength?
