  • Late Night snacks? please help!

Superior Muscle Members I need your help! I always get real hungry at night before I go to bed, I'm talking like 1 hour before bedtime, usually anytime around 11:00pm to midnight. I need to eat something that is good for me, I need everyone's advice towards this matter. What do you guys/gals do in my situation? What's a good choice of food please give examples? Please give examples of food if I was bulking or cutting, for both please.

    Thanks
    Joe

I agree with jackal regarding the low carb protein shake. Or egg whites...make an omelette with veggies, mmmm!

Go to bed earlier. Especially if you are cutting. I notice a big difference if I dont eat before bed.

Studies have also shown that when you're tired, your brain releases a chemical that is similar to that hungry feeling. People often confuse sleepiness with hunger and chow down.

It depends on when your last feeding was. If it is at 3-4 hours before bedtime, you would want to eat some kind of very slow digestable protein based food like cottage cheese or maybe have a cassein based protein shake. Cassein is a very good anti-catabolic form of milk protein that digests very slowly while you are sleeping for 8 hours until you make it to your morning feeding.

Agreed. To this I would add some carbs, since they are protein sparing. A very small apple or other low GI carb would be fine. A spoonful of natural peanut butter is another alternative for those who avoid carbs before bed.

This may be OK for bulking, but he probably would not want to take in too many carbs or fat at bedtime if he is cutting.

Agreed. That is why I tried to indicate small amounts--just enough to handle the energy needs during sleep and spare the protein for muscle synthesis.

If your just having trouble sleeping because your to hungry and don't want to add to many calories, then just eat like some clelery or carrotts or something to fill enough space so you can go to sleep.

you should try maybe eating an apple (or similar fruit). Maybe even a 1/2 can of brocolli. It'll feel you up, and has very little calories.
