  • Muscle formula?

    Opinions please.

Came across this in Men's Fitness - they're advocating consuming this three times/day, with 2 scoops whey protein, 2 cups 100% grape juice and 1 tbsp flax seed oil, on training days (pre and post workout, then again before bed) and once during off days. For the post workout drink they've added 5 g of creatine to the mix.

    Here's the formula:

    400 mg phosphatidylserine
    200 mg alpha-glycerophosphocholine
    1000 mg acetyl-L-carnitine
    5 g taurine
    5 g leucine

I dont agree with the flax oil pre or post workout. Flax oil consists of fatty acids, fat slows down digestion, not what you want post workout. You want your CHO and protein as quickly as possible. Not to mention fish oil is superior to flax oil.

PS is used to assist the brain in its functions, primarily memory. Not a bad supplement if found cheap.

Alpha- GPC is an "anti-aging" complex, nothing really geared towards muscle growth (although said to increase stimulation of GH but). Not really worth the $$, IMO.

ALCAR is great, nothing but good things to say about it, pricey but.

taurine and leucine are decent. The supplment HMB is a metabolite of leucine, but its only good when combined with creatine and in large doses. As for taurine (and leucine for that matter) your protein powder most likely contains a comparable amount, no need in buying raw powder, looks for it in your protein powder.
