  • Bachelor in Sports Medicine?

Which one looks the right stuff for an associates to transfer to UT's Health Science/Sports Medicine BS program? I've emailed them but they havn't got back to me. I'm taking two of the exact same classes right now in the first link at the local community college here in Oklahoma now in my first semester, but it claims it to be a second semester class at the ACC (First Aid, and Care And Prevention of Athletic Injuries). The college I'm at right now is just starting the program this year and the Athletic trainer even said we would be doing stuff first semester that isn't normaly done till 3rd.

I began as a Sports Medicine/Athletic Training major in college and decided to get out of it.......

It generally just depends on how credible your school now is, whether or not things tranfer. Also, the future school (the one youre transferring to) will look at the course outline (usually handed out to you the first day of class) and compare and contrast how that class compares to the one similar offered at their establishment. If they're comparable and the previous school has decent credibility, they will allow that credit to transfer.

I took a couple of classes at Marshall University one summer in hopes they'd transfer to the University of Charleston, but since UC is a private school, they only accepted 1 of 5 credits, and that was a British Lit. credit, so needless to say, I wasted a lot of time and money.

Maybe a little off topic, but if I had it to do over, I might have stayed in Sports Medicine/Athletic training and minored in something like nutrition.

After you get that BS in Sports Med, you can immediately get your Athletic Trainer Certification (ATC) and immediately get your CSCS certification. Which at a top level, each one is a decent amount of money in their own right, but having both, by hiring you, that university is killing two birds with one stone. Now they have a certified ATC AND a Strength and Conditioning Specialist, so you're going to make some nice cheese. Now, factor in that nutrition minor (which isnt a tough minor at all, you've probably learned more on these boards than you will in a nutrition minor) and theres the potential to rake in more money a year, not to mention the interested higher organizations will have in yo (ie. professional sports). Imagine how nice, as an employer, it would be to have a head athletic trainer, who is also the strength and conditioning coach and counsels athletes on proper nutrition.... yea... thats nice.

I will ask my teacher tomorrow if this new program they are developing will give me an assosciates in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training(didn't know that was possible if it is), or if it's classes just pertainting to a Bachelor degree at a future school I would transfer to. I'm thinking it would just be the Kien Asso.

Thanks for the advice YJ. Although I didn't expect to be in OK for longer than a couple months, it looks like it will be a couple years. The program is to get an associates in Athletic Training. So far exactly what I like and want to do and like I said since this is the first year there are no third semester students yet. So I get hands on expiereince starting first semester already. This may give you some flashbacks, but I started taping ankles friday. :)

Ah, the basic ankle taping, I promise you, in 2 years max, youll be able to do that tape job with your eyes closed. I honestly wish I had $1 for every basic ankle tape job I have done.....
