Big Victory in California
Last Friday, the California Assembly voted to block passage of an onerous bill that would duplicate federal legislative efforts and cause dietary supplement prices to rise. Although S.B. 779 had previously passed in the California Senate, its failure to gain approval in the House sent a clear message that consumers and industry alike felt strongly that the bill was an unnecessary burden. Since the California legislature has adjourned for the year, S.B. 779 has effectively “died.”
This success in defeating S.B. 779 was due in large part to grassroots advocates like you pressuring your representatives in the California legislature – through e-mails, faxes, phone calls and personal visits – to stand up to a bill that was clearly bad for business and bad for consumers.
What’s Next?
While the failure of S.B. 779 to pass is an important victory, the fight to maintain access to safe, affordable and effective dietary supplements is far from over – in the states and the U.S. Congress. We’ll need your help in continuing to get the word out to friends, family and colleagues to sign-up for our advocacy alerts and updates. Together, more victories like the one in California are possible.
