  • Ephedrine legal again

Has the ban on ephedrine been overturned? Maybe in some states? I reside in Florida and I've noticed stores have been selling it again.

    Never mind here's my answer

Ephedra is legal again after a federal judge overturns an FDA ban on the substance
Nutraceutical Corporation has been cleared to resume sales of ephedra now that a federal judge partially overturned the complete ban on the substance. However, the judge clearly stated that the ban is not entirely overturned and that there should be strict controls on the instructions for proper use of the weight loss supplement.
Ephedra, the common name for ephedrine alkaloids, were linked to several deaths, leading the FDA to ban the substance entirely in 2004. However, the FDA was only able to prove that high doses of ephedra posed a health risk, not doses at or below 10 mg, the newly imposed limit. The problem with this is, most companies still wont return to manufacturing and selling ephedrine, simply because the insurance to do so is very unprofitable. Companies are permantely looking for stacks and products that are ephedrine free to market. Like it or not, ephedrine is still dangerous if abused and as per usual, people will abuse it.

I side with you. The larger manufactures will more then likely bring it back because they can afford to. At least there will be the option for people who use it for legitimate reasons and follow dosage guidelines.

The key phrase there is "Partially overturned". They can only sell supps with 10 mg or less ephedra in it. That is the raw plant matter, not the purified ephedrine hydrochloride. You would be lucky if 10 mg of the plant matter has 0.5 mg ephedrine alkaloids in it and only a fraction of total ephedrine alkaloids will actually be ephedrine HCl. The others will be varying isomers like pseudophedrine and others. Furthermore, the case was sent back to lower courts for review and could well be re-instated. Even this partial reversal of the ban could be temporary.

It just isn't a good buisness decision to start selling ephedra products right now. you could spend all the money to start up and stock up and then be left holding the bag when the ban is re-instated. Plus, why sell a clearly inneffective ephedra supplement anyway?
