  • Magnolia bark (cortisol inhibitor)

Does anyone have any experience with cortisol inhibitors such as Magnolia Bark? Magnolia bark is the main ingrediant in Relacore and Cortislim - http://www.supplementwatch.com/supat...pplementId=380 Magnolia bark has anti-cortisol and stress qualities that supposedly reduce cortisol levels. If your not familiar with cortisol heres a brief explination. Cortisol is the bodys main stress hormone that isnt very helpful when lossing bodyfat. The body can produce an excessive amount of cortisol in times of stress, either mental or physical.

In short, cortisol is bad as it is catabolic (muscle-wasting), rather than anabolic (muscle building). Also, cortisol makes fat loss more difficult. When dieting or if you have low bf (i.e 5%) cortisol is elevated to high levels which also increases appetite. At these high levels cortisol can negatively affect "cognitive performance, suppress thyroid function, foster blood sugar imbalances and the subsequent deposition of body fat, decrease bone density" [Lyle McDonald] as well as other things.

Besides the manufatures claims, which is exaggerated to mislead overweight people who just need to eat less and exercise more, does it actually keep cortisol levels at bay for bodybuilders? Thoughts?

    Thanks.

if your a bodybuilder why would you want to do that? cortisol is an anabolic steroid. That's almost like wanting to lower your testosterone levels.
