  • Question on yohimbine

I have read quite a bit here and elsewhere on yohimbine but still don't understand the mechanism by which it affects blood pressure. I understand
it's a vasodilator which should lower blood pressure but have read warnings that it can also raise blood pressure. I have learned first hand that it can.
Can someone explain how it works? I am a former chemistry/biology teacher so I think I can follow an explanation if it's not too technical. Thanks

From what I've seen it seems that it raises blood pressure more than it would lower it. I wouldn't take it as a means of lowering blood pressure.

Yohimbine increases blood pressure in resting normal volunteers. This effect is associated with an increase in both sympathetic nerve activity, reflecting an increase in central sympathetic outflow, and in norepinephrine spillover, reflecting potentiation of the release of norepinephrine from adrenergic nerve terminals.

Google scholar is awesome for finding publications on all kinds of topics.

Thanks BBAddict. I hate to admit I'm so technologically challenged but I didn't know about Google scholar though I use Google more than just about anything else. Did find some good articles there and believe I will throw my yohimbine away. Thanks again.
