  • Hazards from too much Protein

    Quick Help:
    What happens when you get too much protein from drinking too many protein shakes? Are they're side effects? What are the consequences if any?

    I have heard it overworks the the liver and can cause damage. true?

    I want to gain weight, but I really don't want my body fat percentage to go up at all. Thats why I chose not to get the weight gainers, or meal replacement protein shakes. They have too many carbs and sat. fat and all that.

    I ordered 10lbs of protein powder and i plan on drinking 4-5 shakes a day, which is about 125-135 grams of protein from just the shakes alone. I weigh 160lbs and my biggest problem in my opinion is that i dont eat enough. I'll have like 2 good meals a day and often thats it. once for lunch and once more after i lift for dinner. I know I should be eating breakfast and I'm working on it; thinking about having like a bowl of cereal or poptarts in addition to the protein shake with possibly 2 scoops.

    I dont think this diet would include way too much protein, but i'm thinking what if i have even more shakes.

    I WANNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IF ONE TAKES TOO MUCH PROTEIN!?

    Eat more real food, and stop worrying so much about suppliments.

    Your diet is shit, and you will not gain weight on that.

    Poptarts and cereal are not bodybuilding food. You need to be eating real food and a whole lot of it. And... with 10lbs of protein and only 2 meals a day you will deffinitely not be getting too much. I guarantee it. Try to take in at least 3000 calories a day, and then worry about your suppliments.

    I am sorry for saying the same thing in all of your threads, but you are going about this the completely wrong way.

      Everything Severedties said and one more thing.

      Don't ask any more questions on bodybuilding forums ever.

      Go to a library and check out every relatively recent book they have on bodybuilding. Read them all. Read them all again. Train for a year. Then see if you will be asking stupid questions like probably all 14 of your posts have been (yes, some, and in the case of this and all boards, many questions are stupid {though this board is pimp, don't get me wrong}).

        Go read up in the nutrition section about diets and you will see the type of meals you should be eating. An easy answer to your question is that you can tell if you're getting more protein than your body can use by if you develop excessive gas problems. If you weigh 160now, you should be able to eat a good 250gms of protein without any problem.

                    for lunch eat some ding dongs and ho ho's with your shakes, that should help

                      cut the cereal and poptarts if your not wanting to up your body fat %

                      egg whites for breakfeast, everyday.........if it's too tough to stomach some people use bbq sauce with the egg whites

                      i'd only take 3 protein shakes per day, get the rest of your protein from real food....
                      I take one when i wake up, after i workout and right before bed

                        :laughnew: Your cracking me up bro, seriousely eat your protien in regular intervals and srink plenty of water to help the liver function, the only people that have to worry about too much protien intake are the ones that already have a pre existing condition that is already effecting their liver's ability to function; scerosis, tumor etc. Dorian yates would eat around 350 grams per day, Greg Covaks like 500grams plus a day. Having said that, 250 grams is plenty for most people.
