  • ever use caffine to harden up?

Are caffine, xenadrine or similar products ever worth taking? If so, when would be the best time to use them. For instance, if one is looking to shed some crappy lbs, and increase muscularity........oh yeah, the person is doing cardio, lifts weights and watches his diet pretty well!

they're definitely worth taking, they increase the amount of fat you burn and increase your metabolism, so it makes all your cardio and diet-watching more efficient and better at fat-burning. It seems that Lipo-6 by Nutrex is a better fat burner than Xenadrine, and Hot Rox sells pretty well too, but when I'm cutting, I reach for an ephedrine-and-caffeine stack, usually 25mgs of ephedrine and 200mgs of caffeine, twice a day, sometimes bumping the ephedrine up to 50 in the AM and 25 at noon.

The only thing is, ephedrine is a stimulant, so it will make you twitchy and raise your heart rate, so if you have a mild arrythmia, or don't feel comfortable with twitchy fingers when you're typing at work, or a general (mild) nervousness overall, maybe it's not a good idea.

The best time to take caffeine is about 30 minutes prior to cardio, as it actually helps to release fat into your bloodstream to fuel you during cardio. Ephedrine, being a stimulant, shouldn't be taken too late in the day, unless you don't mind staying awake during the night. If you cardio first thing in the morning, a good time is right when you wake up, and once again at lunchtime or so.

Just be a bit careful with using metabolic enhancers if you're trying to harden up for a long period of time, because when you come off them, the metabolic rebound will make it much harder to stay lean

I have to agree the caffeine and effedrine stack does work well for shedding weight. I also added aspirin to the stack. Along with burning the calories and fat it also gives you great pumps during your workouts because those 3 all thin your blood. The only downfall was that I hate being wired and sweating all the time when I am not working out.

The only thing caffeine will be good for is energy.

I read that caffeine inhibits the breakdown of cAMP and allows you to burn more fat for energy: http://www.eas.com/nutrition/articles.asp?cmsId=343

The references for that portion of the article are #s 1 through 4, at the bottom

Potentially yes, and thats simply due to the natural diuretic effects of caffeine.

I'm not saying it does nothing, but I like the word YJ used, "Potentially". It dosn't do anything significantly enough to use it the way this guy is asking about. The articel says it can increase calories burned by 4%... If you are burning 3000 calories a day, that means you will burn 3120. That's less calories than half a cup of oatmeal. This is why I was saying the only real use you will find in cafiene is energy.

I also found this part interesting

"The same extract also caused a reduction in the use of carbohydrates for energy and a 10 percent increase in the use of fat for energy."

Those carbs still have to go somewhere...stored as fat? So it's best just to fix the diet and not continue to search for magic pills.

just be careful with caffeine in powder form, i have it at 400mg a 1/4 teaspoon and me being the moron I was the first time I used it I just "sprinkled" it in my protein shake ended up with around 6 grams and overdosed lol, was a shitty 14 hours in the ER and I puked 23 times in less than 10 hours ripped my throat up so i have to drink carafate and take nexium now for the acid reflux, I'm not nocking on the product at all im saying don't be stupid like me I know mine was dosed pretty heavy and it's not much fun explaining to people you overdosed on caffeine and couldn't make class, rather embarassing lol.

Care to explain the metabolic rebound? Are you saying that when you come off a stimulant, your metabolism drops below where it would have been naturally without the stimulant?
